    Cold bedroom above porch

Hi, Used a load of online rad btu calculators (which all came out different) so took an average. The room warms up when rad on but cools quickly but room colder than others when no heating on which makes me feel it’s the cold rooms below causing the issue?

    Cold bedroom above porch

Hi, Yes the room is just a bit of a minefield, has the loft hatch, on 2 external walls and cold rooms below. I have a radiator which should be of sufficient size for the room. I have insulated the loft hatch with celotex and draft excluder around the seal. Loft insulation has been upped to...

    Cold bedroom above porch

Hi, Our house has one bedroom which is always colder than the others. It is the only one with 2 external walls but is also above an unheated porch and unheated downstairs toilet. Do you think the cold bedroom could be due to the cold rooms below? If so what would be the best way to fix...

Insulating and Boarding Loft - Am I along the right lines

Cheers. Yeh I needed to shift the rockwool to get to perimeter of rooms to seal. I’m going to reuse it underneath my raised platform. Boards are 600mm wide and loft legs are fine at that width so hoping is ok? Managed to get all the 100mm layed and 2 widths of 170mm, started on the legs but...

Insulating and Boarding Loft - Am I along the right lines

It begins. Pulling back insulation to foam in around room perimeters where plasterboard is dabbed to wall. Had to re route the shower cable as was buried under the insulation .

    Dining room/ kitchen knock through

Thanks everyone, Footsoldier888 - What do you mean re. supporting new internal wall, do you mean if I was to close up the old kitchen/ hall door? If so can I not just build a stud wall between or are there additional regs as is a kitchen? Floors are level between the 2 rooms. Regarding...

    Dining room/ kitchen knock through

Thanks everyone, I’ve contacted building control to get their input. The wall/ chimney are not on the party wall so no issues with Party Wall Act. Yes will see what is cheaper, don’t mind the mess of getting the whole stack ripped out if easier. Thanks, Dan

    Dining room/ kitchen knock through

Hi all, I'm looking into knocking through our kitchen and dining room to make one open plan space. I am just getting my head around what I need to do r.e. a structural engineer/ building regs. The wall that needs removing is a supporting wall, and has a chimney breast as part of it. I will...

Insulating stud partition wall between hall and porch

Hi, I am looking into insulating the stud partition wall that separates my hall from the porch. The porch is internal (external walls are 2 bricks thick with cavity wall insulation) with a bedroom being above the porch. The majority of the walls are then simply very thin hardboard on battens...

    Dot and Dab concerns

Quick check with regards to the best foam to use. I don't want to pop the plasterboards (although if I did I could have an excuse to rip them off ;-). I have found this stuff - Soudal Low Expansion expanding foam. Low expansion so hoping less risk of popping the boards? Any tips welcome...

Insulating and Boarding Loft - Am I along the right lines

Hi all, Still planning this, having (stupidly) had a few of the house dry lined I now have an additional job of sealing behind the plasterboard from above to reduce the issue of warm air entering my loft. I am going to go around with low expansion foam to try and insulate the gaps then...

    Dot and Dab concerns

Hi all, Thanks for your help, kind of annoyed I had the walls dry lined, should have gone for traditional plaster but just didn’t think. Suppose the best I can do is try and block up as much as I can. Going to seal the lounge from underground, then have similar issue in loft with 2 rooms being...

Insulating and Boarding Loft - Am I along the right lines

Hi All, The next job on my house is going to be getting the loft sorted. I've attached some pictures which shows the general state of things now. For the most part there is about 25-30cm of insulation but the section that is boarded (onto the ceiling joists) just has maybe 1-2 inches of very...

    Dot and Dab concerns

Hi, Cheers, there is a gap between PB and floor. Rooms are completely finished but if needed I can get under house and seal from below. Likely I’m overthinking this then, that’s reassuring. Thanks again, Dan

    Dot and Dab concerns

Hi, Just looking for some advice on whether I’ve done the right thing. Our house (1950s build) had blown plaster which you could peel away with your hands. I knocked all this off and had the walls dot and dab boarded and skimmed. The ground floor is suspended wood floor with crawl space below...

Small damp patch corner of window

Thanks. I’ve chipped away a small amount of plaster and board so I could get to the end and see the joint between the sill and frame. Didn’t feel damp but I’ve packed loads of silicone in. Now to wait for the next storm to see how it holds up. Cheers
