    Advice on ceiling repair?

I wondered about that too. I only removed plaster so it looks like the plaster was applied directly to the beam around the edge of the ceiling. So I guess I'd have to do the same in order to repair it.

    Advice on ceiling repair?

It's a bungalow so no floorboards upstairs. I went into the loft for a look but couldn't see anything untoward. As suggested, I've now pulled down the loose plaster and taken another pic - see below. It's revealed a wooden beam (joist?), the edge of which runs parallel with the crack. The...

    Advice on ceiling repair?

My living room ceiling has developed a crack in the plaster near the edge. The plaster beyond the crack has started to "sag" in one small area, causing an unsightly hole - see pics. The ceiling was re-boarded and plastered around 8 years ago. Could anyone advise what needs doing to repair...

    Water running into toilet bowl

Water is constantly running from my cistern into the toilet bowl. I understand that the first port of call with this problem is often to try replacing the flush seal? I'd like to try that but need pointers on what part(s) to buy and how to do it. The toilet was installed by a builder about...

    Raising a stable door

I had a stable door fitted recently and the top section is catching slightly on the bottom one. The hinges are height-adjustable and I think that raising the top section by a couple of mm would fix it. However, (a) I'm not sure how to do it and (b) I've been told that the top section hinges...

    Removing an interior door

I need to remove an internal door to plane the bottom. I understand the recommended way to remove it is to knock the pins out of the hinges. However, these hinges seem to me to have fixed pins - they are flush to the hinge top and bottom, with no top knuckle. Here's a photo: What's my...

Thanks. I'll take a look at that.

    Power shower pressure reduction

I have a shower powered by a Stuart Turner Showermate 46407 pump. Until a few weeks ago, it was very powerful and had been for the 12 years we've lived in the house (a bungalow). However, recently the water pressure has noticeably reduced. It seems to me that the problem is with the hot...

    Replacing a "magic corner"

I'm thinking of buying one of these to replace a similar one that has broken: http://www.hafele.co.uk/shop/p/kitchens/pull-and-swing-corner-unit-for-cabinet-width-1000-mm/90828/10140 Is this a good make? Worth the £150 or so it will cost? Also, what level of difficulty will I face...

    Dripping mixer tap

Thanks for the replies. I turned off the cold water supply and thought I'd take out the cartridge and take it to a plumbers merchants to get an identical one. However, despite liberal application of WD40, I can't unscrew the thing. Looks like I'll have to consider other options.

    Dripping mixer tap

My kitchen mixer tap is dripping badly and I want to fix it. I bought a bag of mixed washers, but I've read that it might actually be a case of replacing a ceramic cartridge, since the tap is a quarter-turn type? Here is a photo: Is that the cartridge I need to replace? And do I need...

    Hedge trimmer mains lead repair

3A, so I guess that connector would have been OK! In the end, I decided to get one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/DURAPLUG-LCP102ORG-LEAD-CONNECTOR-ORANGE-Miscellaneous/dp/9790835949/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt I've also bought an RCD adaptor to use with the hedge trimmer.
