    Is this wall structural?

On a similar note, if i came to sell the house having removed the wall without any permits etc, how could it come back to bite me? I don't understand how a solicitor during the conveyancing would be able to tell that a small wall had been taken down or widened? And he's not going to know if it...

    Gas or electric?

Hi All, I am renovating a 1930's bungalow. It previously had night storage heaters on an economy 7 system. These have been removed. I was certain that having mains gas plumbed in was the only way to go - combi boiler etc. However, a plumber i use has made me aware that electric heater...

    Is this wall structural?

The joists are at least 6 inches deep by 2 inches wide. Yes there are struts in the loft that support the joists. I hadn't thought about those come to think of it, so thank you. I'll check on the location of the existing struts and see what point they attach.

    Is this wall structural?

Hi All. I know what you are going to say, go and get the opinion of a professional struct eng. But this is a DIY forum so let's forget about the professionals for a moment. Trying to determine is the wall shaded yellow is structural? Some background. Bungalow, no second floor, so the...

Is this a leak or condensation

Can you elaborate on this further? It doesn't need a vapor control barrier as it's a cold roof. Bad ventilation, yes!

Hi, This is a small flat roof that joins to the house and main pitched roof. Some background info: It has never had any insulation between rafters and doesn't have insulation on top. Timber roof joists/rafters with timber furring. Then plywood and then torch on felt. We discovered the...

Glue and nail floorboards or just nail? Or screw?

Ok thanks. Joists are good and there was no squeeking before. Keen that it stays that way. Will look in to the flooring cramp. Was planing on using secret nails, through the tongue, as they were when i took them up. Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated.

Glue and nail floorboards or just nail? Or screw?

Hi, I have lifted the 1930's pine floorboards from my house. I plan to insulate underneath them and then re-lay and sand. Should I: 1. Glue and nail them down 2. Just nail them down 3. Screw and glue 4. Just screw Worried about squeeky floor boards. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Cost of gas meter? (new supply)

Hi, Anyone have any idea what it is likely to cost to have a licensed gas supplier fit a new gas meter to a house? I am having mains gas supplied to the house via SGN. SGN will not install the meter themselves and say that a licensed gas supplier should be used. British Gas etc im assuming...

So when you say "seal to the glass fails" what are you referring to if not the hot melt? I assumed the hot melt was the seal?

Replacing single glazing in timber sash and case windows

Again, such useful info. Thank you! So it sounds to me like the hot melt that is used is prone to shrinking or cracking in some way? Surely there is a product out there that they can seal the units with that create an almost lifelong seal!? Clearly there isn't otherwise it would be in...

Replacing single glazing in timber sash and case windows

Thanks! Any further info from the community on what has worked best for them would be great. If anyone has any experience of adding double glazing to existing windows themselves (as in, actually doing the physical work) i'd be interested to hear from you.
