    Gas OR Electric

I want some opinions on whether or not to have gas or electric heating for a 2 floor maisonette. There is no gas supply in the property, and I already paid to have the gas mains and meter put in outside, but now I'm considering having the meter removed and having electric underfloor heating...

£2900 incl VAT I was thinking.. No don't expect an early start and can postpone the job if the price is right. Just got another guy to quote the job and waiting on it. I'd be looking to pay £3000 incl VAT at most if possible

How much should I pay ?

Thinking about it. One problem is the work I want started next Monday and it could be difficult to get another 1-2 quotes in that time. I'll have to though. If I'm honest I think I'm over paying by over a grand. I reckon this is about £2900 worth of work at most ... It's a Victorian house...

How much should I pay ?

Hi everyone, I spent today doing a bit of budgeting and think what I've been quoted for a full re-wire could perhaps be a little excessive. Here is the quotation for a 2 bedroom maisonette: Kitchen & Lounge 9 double sockets boiler spur cooker supply (6mm for hob) spur and extractor...

Tiling an interior recessed manhole cover

Picture as requested. Picture is taken from where a door is Thanks IJ. Ok then, so in that case I'll do as follows: Break out and re-fit manhole (currently it's flush with floor wrongly) Re-fift 15mm above finish floor level (allows for 8mm ceramic tile and a 6mm bed of adhesive)...

    Fix batton to plasterboard

From personal experience drywall screws will hold the batten to the wall firm enough for the job but yes you will be left with holes where the screws entered .. does it actually matter though? Once the adhesive and tiles goes on it really won't matter about any holes in the plasterboard. If...

Tiling an interior recessed manhole cover

The manhole cover is pretty central to the room. I've considered doing it this way: 1) Making most economical cuts to tile manhole and fit, this will also give me my base level for the rest of the room. 2) Cut tiles to rest of room without attempting to line up grout lines with the tiles...

    Fininishing the tiling

Thanks again Adam, it's a floor mounted WC so cistern sits directly on pan which is screwed to floor.. Why do some people bother cutting around pedestals/pans if this way is fine? I don't get it... I've seen how to videos on youtube of people carefully breaking out bits of tile to the...

    Fininishing the tiling

So I've got to the point now where I've got the floor to tile, and then a small section underneath the batten runs on the wall. Just had a friend in who's a builder and he's told me to finish the floor (e.g. tile) and then put my sink and toilet down afterwards. I said to him I've read if...

    Obscure question about studwork

Ok so what I did earlier today was as follows: 1 )Measured how much I wanted the depth and length of store cupboard to be. In this case I wanted 24 inches from the wall and length 30 something inches (I've forgotten) .. 2) Using a laser level I ran a pencil line along the wall from floor...

    Obscure question about studwork

Say for example I mounted the laser on the tripod at the corner so that I have one line to fix to, and then rotate the laser 90 degrees by swiveling the tripod .. I still have the issue of not knowing how much I have swiveled the tripod, the laser can't tell me how many degrees I have turned...
