    Stripped wallpaper. What next?

Hello. In the process of renovating an old Victorian house, one step at a time. This is step one. I've just stripped the wallpaper and ceiling down to the plaster, but it's very crumbly and inconsistent. There are some cracks. There's also this strange (maybe insulation?) fabric under the...

    Stripped wallpaper. Now what?

    Asbestos removal

Hi everyone. In the process of renovating our small terraced house. Had an asbestos survey and there's asbestos in the timberboard under the sink in the cupboard in the kitchen. We've been quoted £1,400 to have the cupboard removed. Does that sound right? We will be renovating the kitchen...

What order shall I renovate in?

That's good to know, thanks. I'm expecting the worst (whole house replaster!) so anything less is a bonus. How much should I expect to pay for such work? It's a small two bedroom terrace. I'm imagining, if it was full scale plastering, to expect to pay around the £3000/£4000 mark? Probs as...

What order shall I renovate in?

Thank you both. Sounds like the damp is the priority then. Hoping to get that done shortly. It's in the kitchen/downstairs bathroom and a little in the corner of the reception room. But I imagine the whole house will need replastering after the electrics, right?

    Asbestos

Thanks. Some paper underlay and vinyl underlay under the carpets. There wouldn't be any in those? Thanks.

    Asbestos

Hi. Not sure where to put this thread. My partner and I have moved into an old Victorian house that needs renovating. We're in the process of throwing out the carpet. I'm now worried that we've been too hasty and have exposed something we shouldn't have. There is dust under carpet lining...

    Gas but no central heating

Sorry, just didn't understand. It's working now! Thanks. With a back boiler, are you meant to leave them on all the time? Or switch it on when needs be?

    Gas but no central heating

There's nothing on top of the cylinder though.

    Gas but no central heating

This is under the fire. I've just turned this on; should that do it?! It makes a clicking and a buzzing for about 30 seconds, turns off for a second, then back on for another 30 seconds and repeat. Should this be firing up the back boiler?? Central heating doesn't work either.

    Gas but no central heating

It's a back boiler, behind the fire place (one of the many things to replace!) Would that have an immersion heater? Had a gas safety test before we moved in too

    Gas but no central heating

Hi, I've just moved into a new home. It's very old and needs lots of work! We have no hot water, but we do have gas and an electric shower. We have a water tank in the loft which has a tap and a tap downstairs, next to the bathroom. I wrote this when the gasman called me before we moved in...
