Does a vent improve or make condensation worse?

So if I was to put a vent in that room it would make it colder and therefore worse I take it? And even though the bathroom and kitchen are far away from that room (bathroom opposite end of house) it will still be contributing to the condensation? Bathroom isn't vented but Windows are always...

Does a vent improve or make condensation worse?

Hi all, I've searched for similar topics in the forum to get a general idea of what I think I should be doing. We have what I am pretty sure is a condensation problem in the small bedroom upstairs. This is a corner box bedroom so has two external walls. The house is a 1930s semi detatched...

Concrete formwork - half grass half paving

Thanks for your help Frank. The path gently slopes down the garden so the top of base will sit above the level of the path to stop any rainwater falling off the path into the base (and then into the shed). I'll try what you suggested when I create the formwork this weekend.

Concrete formwork - half grass half paving

Hi all, Planning a concrete base for a 10ft x 14ft shed. Two main questions: 1) The area takes up part of my lawn and goes up to my garden path. The formwork that I will create for the lawn side will be held in the ground with stakes. I obviously can't do that on the side that is next to the...

Shed base from MoT Type 1

Hi thanks for the further info. I am leaning towards concrete now considering the potential problems with just a sub base. I'd have to lay a sub base for the concrete anyway so effectively there isn't much more time involved in concreting I suppose. And yes it's a large shed/workshop so it makes...

Shed base from MoT Type 1

Hi R896neo, Thanks for the reply. In that case, do you think the plastic base could go directly on the earth, with a damp-proof membrane underneath? Supposedly they can according to the various manufacturer websites but I'm not too convinced. Either that or it will have to be concrete as...

Shed base from MoT Type 1

Hi everyone, Currently I'm digging out a section of lawn for my shed base. Will be 14ft x 10ft. Soil is quite heavy clay soil. Could a plastic shed base be installed directly on top of a compacted sub base such as MoT Type 1? I like the semi permanent nature of those plastic shed bases and...

Stray voltage from dishwasher case to central heating pipes

Brilliant thanks guys. Yes it was on when I received my shock but I never realised there was an issue until then because that's what made me inspect the wiring. Good to know there is a small amount of leakage to ground but its not a concern. And nope no shock anymore. :D Thanks.

Stray voltage from dishwasher case to central heating pipes

Hi, Was hoping you could help. Recently had a small shock from touching the inside metal case of dishwasher. Immediately isolated the electrics and checked behind the wall socket face plate. That was fine. I checked the plug and found that there was poor ground contact so have re- screwed in...

What type of plaster repair/damage is this?

Hi Ree, Yes to the left is a bay window. Rest of the plaster seems solid. No other cracks obvious. Please see attached photo. Also there is a photo of the wall externally. Plan is to prime that area with some problem-wall-primer and then just carry on papering I think. Unless you think...

What type of plaster repair/damage is this?

There is a vent near the top of the wall But seems too close to adjoining wall to have been a fireplace. I thought it was that for a while as it lead through to outside. But the rest of the section of wallpaper in between that area is fine. See attached. Will report back when I've stripped...

What type of plaster repair/damage is this?

Hi Ree, The plaster is spongy in the pics. Right where the centre of that faint cross is on the plaster. Feels slightly bulged. Definitely not completely flush with the rest of the wall but isn't noticeable unless you run your hand over it. Other side of the wall (external to the...

What type of plaster repair/damage is this?

Hi all, I'm about to start replacing the wallpaper in my bedroom. house is a standard 1930s semi detached. I noticed the corner of the wallpaper came off quite easily then noticed this crack/repair underneath. It's spongy to the touch right in the centre but it isn't damp. Quite sandy too...

Re-pressurising Main Combi 30 Eco Boiler

Thanks Simond. Would these pipes interface with the boiler where they dissapear behind it then? I always thought you had to attach the flexible hose to the front of the connections which have the black twisty valves in order to refill them. Thanks, Daz
