What type of posts for this type of fence?

I've been pricing up all the bits that I need (and finally found a good excuse to buy that new drill and reciprocating saw) , and thought about the gravel board. Currently the wooden gravel boards just sit on grass and look fairly knackered. In the interests of set it and forget it, it seems...

What type of posts for this type of fence?

That sounds good, and having done my nosey neighbour bit, I can see that someone down the road has done something similar. What do you recommend for anchoring the posts, I've read about putting a bit of gravel in the bottom of the hole before putting the post in, then concreting it in up...

LDC refused due to removed PD rights

Just thought I'd add in that my house also had it's PD rights removed, there's nothing special about it or the area, it's a 70s semi in suburban Coventry. My conveyancer obviously didn't spot it either, and the local planning department were less than helpful when I asked for further information...

What type of posts for this type of fence?

The old fence at my house is about knackered, the posts are starting to snap at the base as they have all rotted. They are concreted in. It has done it's time by the looks of it though. It's getting worse and worse and my temporary bodge has been to hammer in metal rods and cable tie the post...

    Overboarding upstairs floor

House has been completely re-wired, re-plumbed, the lot... Good shout on keeping records of it all though. Don't really want to go down the route of ripping the old floor up and relaying with boards, for the cost and the time - trying to get the house done for Christmas. Is fixing ply...

    Overboarding upstairs floor

The upstairs floor on my 70s semi is well knackered, and as we're doing a full job on the house we decided to do something about it. Previous owners have ruined a fair few boards when carrying out wiring bodges and installing crap plumbing (all dealt with now...) Someone from the other halfs...

New water supply pipe, move meter

I work for the electricity board, so don't usually get far enough down to see water pipes! Didn't realise I'd be able to do it myself, expected some regulation to stop me from doing so. Looks like I'll go with that idea then, get the water board to inspect and then sort the rest myself. Cheers!

New water supply pipe, move meter

Depth isn't a worry, I work for a utility and make people lower their trenches occasionally, would be a bit embarrassing if I cocked that up! So who would make the connection to the stop tap after the pipe has been inspected, the water board or a plumber? If it's the water board any idea...

New water supply pipe, move meter

In my early 70s semi, the water supply pipe is a black plastic one (looks 15mm ish) running from the stop tap in my driveway, through/under the concrete raft foundation of the house, and into the understairs cupboard into a water meter. Gas pipe is allegedly concreted in to the foundation so it...

    Twisting conductors or not?

Years ago back in college, the tutor explained exactly what you've just said. I can't remember the exact reasoning, but it sounded good! He also tried to discourage us from twisting the ends of stranded singles before terminating, however nobody bothered as when you tighten it up it just...

    Voltage Complaint

It's the season for high voltage complaints, unfortunately the vast number of PV installations are causing havoc everywhere else. Poorly calibrated/not working overvoltage relays in the PV control systems seem to be the usual suggestion, I doubt once fitted they ever get checked....and it's...

Removing thermoplastic tiles from concrete floor

No problem there - we have disposable asbestos removal kits on the shelf at work and the local tip will take it. Have had a look at the Sika range, is it something like Sikabond Rapid DPM that I'm after? Will I need to remove the old adhesive, it is a black bitumen like substance that...

    New tncs supply, 16mm ok?

I suspect what they actually want is to have the isolator after the meter, but it's someone else's responsibility to put the meter in....so......

    Jointing

We adopted the LV network of a previously private site, everything in SWA and jointed questionably. The joint shells used include Quality Street tins, Jacobs biscuit boxes, etc. So I vote for a 'Jacobs joint'

    New tncs supply, 16mm ok?

I've dealt with a couple of these, it sounds to me like the two properties had a looped supply, as the service cupboards appear to be back to back, one is looped out of the top side of the other one's cutout, and it enters through a metal conduit, with both meters in the service cupboards...

Removing thermoplastic tiles from concrete floor

I'm doing up my 70s built house and will be about to start doing the kitchen, which will get a tiled floor. There is currently thermoplastic tiles on the whole of the downstairs. Have took out the old kitchen and there aren't any where the old cabinets are. I have no problem with ripping...

New heating system - advice needed

I'm doing a complete renovation on my house and the other half's uncle has decided to sort of project manage it. As part of this, the 70's 8mm microbore heating system has come out and a new boiler fitted upstairs. He has a good plumbing/heating mate, but has kindly decided to save money we're...

    No permitted development area

Had a reply back from the planning department who confirmed all of the above is true, and that I will need planning permission for a fence, shed, etc. bugger :( He did however say that after 4 years of it being there, if nobody complains then its immune from action. The way it was worded...

    Double door lining

That's great, thanks I need another one anyway as I've knocked the bathroom and toilet through and want a central doorway, so having a load of spare parts to hand for both jobs sounds like a good idea.
