How do you 'sand' a concrete floor

You could try: vinyl tile with the right adhesive. laminate floor - slightly thinner. depending on where the doors are you could put in a mat well.

    Felt backed carpet

The gripper is best suited to hessian backed carpets so that the spikes in the gripper hold on to the carpet backing as the carpet is stretched. The gripper really has nothing to hold on to with the felt backing. Poor advice from the shop.

What's the moisture tolerance for 'elasticated' glue.....

I presume the moisture meter that your flooring guy used was something like a Tramex meter and any reading over 4 would indicate too high a level of moisture for a wood floor installation. Having said that you should not be considering installing a wood floor on a base that does not have an...

    Woodfloor - Threshold fitting problem

Wood floor thresholds are available with rebates of up to 20mm and any good wood floor shop or fitter should have these.

New surface needed before laying vinyl?

You would probably be better to fix some wbp ply over the floor first. This will give you a good base on which to lay the tiles and depending on the thickness would support your hole. I would also suggest you don't use self adhesive tiles - they don't have the best adhesive. I would buy...

Engineered Wood, Floorboards + Secret Nailing?

Well, all of those apply, the choice is yours. If you don't have a nailer then floating would be the least expensive option, followed by nailing and then full stick down. You certainly wouldn't need load bearing ply to support a board of that thickness.

Engineered Wood, Floorboards + Secret Nailing?

The flooring you are looking at is in itself load bearing so there would be no problem in nailing it to your existing floorboards provided they are level. Lay it at right angles to the floorboards otherwise you will need to ply first. I would also recommend laying building paper...

    laying an engineer oak floor

If your sub floor is level then this underlay should be fine. The slight imperfections around the perimeter won't make any difference with that thickness of board. If the variation IS only 2mm then again this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

    Laying vinyl tiles (kardean)

Have you bought Karndean or is it another vinyl flooring? The size of trowel will depend on the type of adhesive you are using. Whichever vinyl you have bought the manufacturer should give fitting instructions that include the different types of adhesive that may be used.

Solid oak floor - can I part batten part float?

You should not use normal wood floor adhesive to make up for differences in height for floor levels but there is a product - Sika T2 that is designed to do that. You can download the details from their web site.

    wood flooring over floorboards

You could uplift the existing floorboards and replace with either solid or engineered boards that are load bearing ie. at least 18mm. You need to check for air flow as well to prevent any possible problems.

    Uneven floor - laminate nightmare

Tredaire Boardwalk is a good underlay but it depends on how uneven your floor actually is. If the man who is selling the underlay is installing the laminate then he will have a better idea.

self levelling compound on top of liquid dpm

Yes you can. It is always advisable to use products from one manufacturer as they will be compatible. I usually use F.Ball products although I have used Sika products. They both have excellent technical departments if you need further advice.

    Uneven floor - laminate nightmare

What you have appears to be asphalt which is a levelling/dpm coating. The edges have broken probably as a result of a carpet fitter trying to nail gripper into it instead of gluing it down. You can use a screed on this - you would need to degrease/prime/screed - I normally use F.Ball...

Advice with laying vinyl floor over quarry tile in kitchen

Quarry tiles can be laid on a concrete subfloor, on a thin screed or just on a bed of earth. You will need to establish which way yours have been laid. The best method would be to remove the existing tiles, check for moisture and then proceed accordingly. If you are having a vinyl floor then...
