    Outdoor Spotlights

Found these on Screwfix, which are similar in style to the B&Q ones: Single: http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-4w-led-pir-floodlight-with-photocell-black-230v/29448#product_additional_details_container Twin...

    Clicker Plug

Is it possible to get just the mechanism and the plug cap? I don't really fancy taking the whole plughole out.

    Outdoor Spotlights

I recently moved into a new house and there is a small halogen PIR security light above the garage door. It illuminates the back door and car port area. I'm not sure of the wattage, but it is fairly powerful. It is a security light but we only really need it to see where we are going at night...

    Clicker Plug

I have a clicker plug (sorry, don't know the actual name of them!) which you press to fill the plughole and press again to pop it out. Like all novelty plugs of this nature, it has broken. The clicker mechanism seems okay but it no longer stays attached to the cap. I can click it closed but...

    Alarming advice

Yep, I'm definitely getting smoke alarms upstairs and downstairs. I'm just going to get battery ones, rather than having them wired in. Whilst we're on the matter, can anyone tell me anything about CO2 alarms? Our gas boiler is in the garage, so I imagine I won't need one there. But we also...

    Alarming advice

I can't put an alarm in every room!

    Alarming advice

The downstairs hall is adjacent to both the kitchen and the living room so it seemed a good place to cover both rooms.

    Alarming advice

No, but the two alarms would not be far away from each other (downstairs hall and upstairs landing) so I think we'd hear either.

    Alarming advice

I take your point about the cost, but I'm not comparing £160 with not doing anything at all. I'm comparing £160 with £40-ish for battery smoke alarms. If the battery smoke alarms will do the same job, I'd rather pay a 1/4 of the price.

    Alarming advice

Our electrician has now revised his quote for the 2 smoke alarms to £160. Still seems a lot to me. Other than not having to replace batteries, is there any other advantage to having a smoke alarm that is wired into the electrics?

    Alarming advice

Bit of a noob query (like most of mine on here, actually) but I'd like some advice on smoke alarms. We've just moved into a new house in which there is a smoke alarm on the landing that is connected to the intruder alarm. This seems to do the trick (thankfully not had to use it!) but we'd...

    Lowering a manhole

Just to update you on what has happened with the manhole cover... After various calls from Yorkshire Water saying that they were very busy and that the manhole was unlikely to be fixed within the next few months, a couple of workmen suddenly arrived early one morning. They dug up the...

    Lowering a manhole

Wishful thinking I guess, but I just wondered whether they would "finish the job" and tarmac all around the manhole. Would they really just do one side of it and leave the rest open? So if I do end up paying to have the remaining three sides tarmaced, can anyone give me a rough idea of how...

There's a hole in my airbrick

Surely that would be quite a flaw for a company called "Mousemesh"? ;-)

    Lowering a manhole

I have a manhole cover to a surface water drain on the very edge of my property. The area around the manhole has sunk quite a bit and the concrete around it is crumbling away, making it a bit of a hazard - a little speed bump at the end of our drive. I've been in touch with the Council, who...

There's a hole in my airbrick

Probably not in terms of the mess I'd inevitably make! Looking for an easy fix if possible...

There's a hole in my airbrick

I have a 6" x 9" airbrick at the rear of my property, just below the kitchen window. It is starting to look a bit tatty, and part of it has crumbled, leaving a small hole. A friend suggested that mice could get in, so I have blocked up the hole with a small stone. I'd like to improve the...
