    Cooker Switch

Hi all, I have another question regarding the new electrics being installed in our new kitchen. I see you can get two different formats of 45A cooker switch, a 1 gang square or a 2 gang vertical format. They both appear to have the same spec except the larger one has a neon indicator so I...

    Complete Kitchen Refit

Yeah, I was going to do that anyway. I just wanted to know if there was anything in the regs that limited how close to the ceiling a socket could be. Anyway, I've had another thought. I could have the cable exit the wall and just have the socket surface mounted on the top of the cabinet.

    Complete Kitchen Refit

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have spoken to the electrician and I'm going to have the 13a socket above the wall cabinet. Just one thing though, I have just marked the wall where the top of the cupboards are going to come (determined by the tall oven housing & larder) and they are a fair bit...

    Complete Kitchen Refit

Ok, thanks guys. I have been to see the electrician again today and it is all sorted now. I am going to have a 20A isolator at countertop height (to act as a light switch) connected to a fused connection unit above the wall cupboards. He suggested having this as a spur off of the ring main...

    Complete Kitchen Refit

As stated above, it will be on the ring main.

    Complete Kitchen Refit

The estimate supplied says NIC EIC Test and Certification. Yes, he has been to see me and we have discussed what is going where. However, I forgot about the undercabinet lighting so didn't discuss this with him at the time. It is compared to 240v.. However, I stand corrected. I will...

    Advice For Plastering Above Window/Door

Hi, It's taken a while but we have just started the kitchen. As suggested I have got a recommended plasterer in and he is going to take care of the whole lot for me. So, thank you all for your advice. By following it I have saved myself a lot of work and I know it will be done properly...

    Complete Kitchen Refit

Hi, I am in the process of completely refitting the kitchen and would like some advice regarding the electrics. Forstly, let me say that I am getting in an electrician and he has already given us the quote to connect up and test etc. However, I am putting all the boxes in the walls and...

    Mitre Saw Blade

Thanks very much for your advice, I shall take it all on board. I shall probably rebate the back and then glue & pin the back panel. However, until I've actually got the kitchen units and I can see their construction it is difficult to know exactly what I will do. Also, I have now ordered...

    Mitre Saw Blade

Thanks for the advice. Don't worry, I always make sure that the workpiece is well supported all round. I don't quite understand what you are trying to get across about the cut off piece. Here is a diagram of the kitchen and the layout of the kitchen units showing the larder unit that will...

    Mitre Saw Blade

Ah, well I'm not sure yet. The kitchen hasn't been delivered yet so I'll see what the construction is like and then determine how to replace the corner joints. Obviously, I will be cutting it down to size before construction. Assuming the existing corner assembly fixings are cut off then...

    Mitre Saw Blade

I'm not reducing it height wise but depth wise. This is because the larder unit is going next to a tall oven housing but the wall steps out a couple of inches. So, in order to get the fronts to line up, I need to reduce the depth of the larder unit by cutting 2 inches from the back.

    Mitre Saw Blade

Thanks for that. With respect to the Piranha blade, I've seen some B&D Piranha blades and the packaging is exactly the same as the one I posted except that it has "Black & Decker" written below the Piranha logo. So perhaps the eBay one I linked to were older ones before they put the B&D logo...

    Mitre Saw Blade

Hi, I am looking for a fine toothed blade for my sliding mitre saw and came accross this one for sale on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160466402691&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT As you can see it is a Piranha blade but there is no mention of Black and Decker on the...

    Advice For Plastering Above Window/Door

To be honest I wasn't going to plaster straight onto the smooth surface, I was going to break the surface up to provide a better key for the plaster. However, thanks for your advice, I didn't realize it was that much of an issue. I shall consult a plasterer and see what he recommends...

    Advice For Plastering Above Window/Door

Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice about the wall above my kitchen window/door. We are just about to undergo a complete kitchen refit and in the process will need the walls and ceiling completely re-plastering. For this I will get a professional plasterer in but I will want to do...

    Low Energy Downlighters

Hi, could someone help me out here. I am currently renovating the house entrance portch and am replacing the ceiling. Because it is quite a low ceiling I want to put two downlighters in the ceiling and want to use the low energy variety. However, in looking for a suitable fitting I have...

    Replacing Junction Boxes

While this may be the ideal solution it is not always possible when the wire is in an area that is decorated or has floor laid. I am perfectly happy with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy. However, what if there is one that is broke and does need replacing. Should I then replace...

    Replacing Junction Boxes

Hi, In the precess of doing general renovations to the house I have come across a few junction boxes under the floorboards in both the ring main and the lighting circuit. What I want to know is whether I should be removing these junction boxes as I find them and joining the wires using...
