    Understanding Motor Name Plates

Thanks for the reply! When would you have 3 x 220v supplies? Is the difference between 3 Phases, and 3 x 220v supplies the fact that the 3 phases would normally lag each other, where as 3 x 220v supplies would the same wave form? I.e 3 phase wave: Thanks

    Understanding Motor Name Plates

Could someone help me with what the name plates actually mean on a motor. The one I'm most familiar with is: Star: 380-415V, 0.71A, 0.25kW As all the motors I've seen are 3 phase and are wired in star. Like this, pretty standard I assume: But, the names plates also have a single...

    Best paint?

Thanks for the replies. I imagine an industrial type paint will be needed, but don't know where to find it really? I will check out the Bedec stuff, and see what they have to offer. The pipework has ammonia gas running through it, up to a cooling tower. Thanks

    Best paint?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I am wanting to paint it as the current paint is starting to flake off, a lot! So it looks very poor aesthetically. But we also want to protect the pipe work to give as long life as possible. It is carrying ammonia gas/liquid, although this shouldn't have any...

    Best paint?

Also, would some form of 2 pack paint be needed? If so which type? Thanks

    Best paint?

Is there a BEST paint for metal pipework, which is fully open to the elements, and goes from cold temperatures of around zero ° C to around 150 ° C? We have some pipework which all the paint is flaking off, so I guess we need to scrap as much paint off as possible, then treat it with some...

    Electrical Motor Load

How would you spec it though? As like you said, something smaller would work, but if doing the job properly, how would you know what to put in there? For example a 1A overload wouldn't work....I know that is the extreme, but I don't understand how you could spec it correctly.

    Electrical Motor Load

Thanks for the replies. I'll explain the situation a little better, as I probably didn't originally. At work there is a spare motor, with gearbox attached to it which is for use in a freezer. This is just sat on a pallet until needed, but recently the manufacturer recommend we 'turn over'...

    Electrical Motor Load

Thanks for the reply. So what current draw would you expect from the above motor if it was just sat in a work shop running, with nothing attached to it? This may sound stupid, but could the plates not show the un-loaded current, and full load current? Cheers

    Electrical Motor Load

I've been left puzzled by what someone has told me, and I'm hoping someone can help me out with an explaination. If a 3-Phase motor has a name plate with: 415v, 20A in Star, and it was running with nothing attached to it, I.e no shaft etc. Will it be running at 20A? Just someone today told...

    Electric Storage Heaters

Thanks a lot for the help :) Where are the timers usually located for the heaters? Near the DB? Thanks

    Electric Storage Heaters

With my fluke multi meter. But as for time, 4pm. Which now you have said that, the reason for 0v will be due to them being on a timer, and probably only 'on' around midnight!

    Electric Storage Heaters

Hi, My friend and her daughter have electric storage heaters, and the kitchen one doesn't work (never has since she's lived there). It would be nice to get it working as the child is only 3, and the kitchen is freezing! I checked the power on the live side of the switch, and there is 0v...

    BSPP to BSPP

Thanks for the replies guys. But we didn't want to risk any sort of leak, so I welded one half one the union on to the pump housing this afternoon, pressure tested it, and all is ok :) Master of None, the pump and unions are seperate items. Although the unions don't have gaskets in either...

    BSPP to BSPP

Hi all, At work one of the pumps is on it's way out, so a colleague has bought a new one, but it isn't totally a straight swap. The pump has a 1 1/2" BSPP inlet and a 1 1/4" BSPP outlet, and he has bought the same size unions to fit directly on to the inlet/outlet. The unions are also BSPP...

    College Theory Question

I've drawn a picture, as I work better with pictures! So in theory is this what you mean? One or the other?

    College Theory Question

Thank you all for your replies! It has definitely given me something to think about and research! If ignoring my original question then (some of the figures were incorrect, as I guessed them while at work), what is the most common practice for an office/commercial lighting circuit? Say 16...

    College Theory Question

Could anyone help with this question please (not written like-for-like): I'm told there are a few correct answers, and I *think* the following could be done: - Split the load in two, and have two separate ring mains. Although this may be too far fetched? - Replace the MCB incase it is...

Any clever Engineers out there to help with some questions?

From the last 20kN, should it then go back to zero? I think yes, but would like to be sure. Thanks again
