Signal but cannot find the aerial?!

Apologises Sam. In the front sitting room there is a 1 gang coaxial socket (on its own) consisting of a brown coax cable with no markings. When a tv is connected to this socket it is capable of recieving good quality signal including HD channels. In the rear sitting room there is a 1 gang...

Signal but cannot find the aerial?!

It appears that there is a straight forward coax box in the front room (on its own) and in the rear room there is a coax box directly next to a telewest cable box with coax coming out of the telewest box into the coax (looks to have been split off). I suspect this is doable? I just don't...

Signal but cannot find the aerial?!

Do you think I should see a degredation of the cable signal though? If I stand in the middle of the room it strangely seems to have an effect at blocking the signal? Not that I do this regularly of course but it shows that the signal is not always constant which you would expect from a cable...

Signal but cannot find the aerial?!

Great idea mate Problem is it's about 25m2. Builder is due in May. Was planning to lay a 1200 gauge DPM sheet on top of the currently laid Tarp.. if I only knew what I knew then now :-/

Signal but cannot find the aerial?!

It does indeed. So both rooms are connected via the telewest box through the floor void I am guessing. Shame as in the front room HD channels are available but the rear room struggles with even standard itv and channel four let alone HD. Thoughts as to the quality differential? Oh trust me...

Signal but cannot find the aerial?!

Hi Doggit, Thanks for the reply. Nope, not found anything even close to that in my travels in the loft and looking at all the external cables in the house. I'd notice a powered booster too from the smart energy meter and so been able to discount that too. I can see two more modern coax...

Signal but cannot find the aerial?!

It is indeed yeah, just freevies via coax. I can't see where the cables for that would run to to tap into but really not inconceivable. Is this normal? Im not sure the neighbours got on too well.. It is almost spooky (although I know there will be a logical explanation) :-)

Signal but cannot find the aerial?!

Now this is really strange. I have signal in both front and back rooms but cannot for the life of me trace it to an aerial in the loft or anywhere on the roof. I even cut a cable in the loft that appears to go to the aerial socket in the front room - and it still works!! Is there anything...

    Insulating bay from inside?

Thought a pic of the top may help. Looks to be a clear 60mm gap to fill.

    Insulating bay from inside?

New windows are just being fitted and the plasterwork (lathe and plaster) is shot. I am thinking of removing and insulating but worried about condensation build up from installing celotex between the beams?

    Timer in PCB?

Stem - I have exactly the same thoughts in regards to the boiler but I can't get to boiler to fire up on demand for the hot water. It is a very old boiler Potterton Flamingo 50 and I'm not sure if the feeds are right for it to heat the hot water. In any case the boiler is so intermittent...

    Timer in PCB?

Hey all, Managed to figure out we have a central heating system from an old style boiler and an immersion heater is managing our hot water. My only concern is the cost of the immersion (I know they are expensive) but woke up this morning to see between midnight and 8am the current electricity...

    £11,000? Good / Bad?

Hi all, As a guide, thoughts on the below. Had two local quotes and and they both seem similar in price. I know it will only be roughly priced but the quote has been for 28mm double glazed 'swish' units with black wood grain foiled external cills. All windows and doors come with hammered...

    Rising Damp and Plastering

Cheers Vinn .. a gent as ever. Makes sense about moving towards the warmer staircase. All of that area is solid so if I can help having that up it would be great. Will keep you posted with developments

    Rising Damp and Plastering

Yes the white wall is the other side of the stair flight. This used to be an outside wall until the 80s at which there was extension added so this is now an interior wall. The extension does have a visible DPM. The whole property is solid brick construction (bar the newer extension). Number 1...

    Rising Damp and Plastering

Here's a pic of the other side of that wall. All seems fairly dry to be honest. Looked into the Dryzone Cream. It looks great stuff by the way, easy install too. Going to have the flooring up at the weekend and take off the skirting boards in the affected areas so will keep you posted.

    Rising Damp and Plastering

The room on the other side is indeed a solid floor and as you can just see the floor closest to that wall is solid topped with Minster tiling. I will take some pics of the outside but this is indeed a newer extension (most likely cavity). Its actually easier to crawl under floors, and...
