paint old T&G cladding white but so the grain shows thro

20 year old untreated pine T&G cladding (on interior wall of outhouse) ..want to paint the wall white but so the grain shows through. Is there a type/brand of paint you can use straight out of the tin that's designed to do this?..or is it a case of mixing a sort of "whitewash" with latex paint...

    alternative to fball stopgap 500/700

I have read the very helpful sticky provided by Matty (& comments from others) ..thanks for that. However, still feel need to ask a question: I am laying 6mm exterior grade ply over an existing floor to get a better finish for polyflor or similar heavy-duty vinyl to be fitted on top. Is there...

    Induction Hob....couple of questions.

slightly o/t...& maybe a small thing but think if you go induction you may also need to consider buying new pans unless your existing ones are suitable..not all are...and the ones that are are generally relatively expensive...afaik....not excessive but not at the lower end of the price range...

replacing all-in-one cooker with separate hob & double o

Yes very true..lesson learned I hope..mea culpa. No manual with oven (..must hunt one down on the net). .but there is another thread on here I found where the author says "The (same) oven isn't supplied with a connection cable and the manual tells me I need a cable H05RR-F 3 G 1.5" I think...

replacing all-in-one cooker with separate hob & double o

thanks again ttc..think there's at least one brand of consumer unit where the mcbs slip out (Wilex?)..anyway as I said it was just the braces (of the belt& braces)..MAIN SWITCH as you say...I'll also switch power off at the meter box..have a healthy fear of leccy after I got a fair "tingle" in...

replacing all-in-one cooker with separate hob & double o

thanks ttc..yes I had heard about "diversity" in an electrical context....thought it meant sparkies had to be ultra pc ! p.s. gonna bash on with the job myself..one little last Q...anyone know if you can pull the mcbs out of a Legrand "main box"? replacing all-in-one cooker with separate hob & double o

thanks b-a-l..yes I see! That's why we've had no problems with the 10.08KW cooker on a 32A mcb!! Thanks for the advice on the part too..I think I'll get one and go that way rather than getting a spark in to run a brand new radial circuit from the main-box. Can't see the extra potential max...

replacing all-in-one cooker with separate hob & double o

At the moment we have an all-in-one cooker with max. wattage rated at 10085 W. (44 amps at 230V). The cooker switch "box" has a separate plug-socket on it but I rarely use that socket. The cooker itself is fed from its switch-box by about 1m. of what appears to be 6mm2 T&E (externally about 15mm...

edit: sorry.. used wrong term in header..hole needed through end of the threaded part of the bolt (shank is the non-threaded bit next to the(hex) head isn't it?) I want to secure double wooden shed doors in addition to the normal locks...especially if away for a holiday. I want to put a...

transfer pump for 28-second heating oil (kerosene)

I need to move some 28-second heating oil from one tank to another. Need to move say 500 litres ..but only occasionally...so didn't really want to spend hundreds. Any suggestions? It seems from doing some looking round that a lot of electric transfer pumps are for diesel and gas-oil...

recommendation for good roofer in Cardiff

daughter in law has terraced house ..rainwater coming in to rear of property when its lashing down. Think problem is centered on shared chimney stack on rear outer elevation of property (not the chimney at ridge). Has already had valley gutter & flashing replaced..and back of stack (facing the...

source of Silencer/Exhaust Flue for balanced flue boiler

Steve..thanks..I had no idea you were still in operation! My old Mistral 1B/ RS is still going strong after what..20 years. When I had a problem with the bearings on the (original) burner unit I rang the 0630 number on the back of the Technical manual..no dice and figured Mistral had gone. I got...

source of Silencer/Exhaust Flue for balanced flue boiler

boiler is old but going strong..but I do need to replace the "exhaust". Boiler maker was Mistral (Market Drayton) but they don't exist any more..haven't for years to my knowledge. Anyone know a firm that stocks such things? p.s. any good oil-fired b/f boilers being made today?

    Riello 40 oil burner..

thanks Burnerman for your prompt input..strangely enough the wind has turned right round here the last couple of days from an easterly to the north west (which is not common here). Its a cool one and I could really feel it as I was round by the tank & near where the balanced-flue comes out. I...
