Creeper left a right state on outside wall

I actually forgot to update this one, so share and share alike. Good pressure washer got the lot off. Had to be held fairly close to the wall but cleaned up a treat and after a quick repaint was good as new....

    Cellar Chiller Removal

After getting a price for someone to come and safely decommission and dispose I have 2 other solutions. 1: Sell it and buyer dismantles/collect 2: Skip under roofline, unbolt unit, push off roof, run, go to another pub for lunch whilst the dust settles, take to recycling centre.....

    Cellar Chiller Removal

Hugh After spending an hour this morning in a queue with another 100 cars all stuck behind a recycling bin truck going house to house, I am beginning to wonder if Environmental protection and ozone friendly are purely words we banter around to make us feel good. I am sure you are right...

    Cellar Chiller Removal

Ex pub being converted into house. There is a 2 part cellar chillar with one unit in the cellar and the fan whatever unit on the roof. I need to remove it but was warned to watch out as its is highly pressurized. It has been off and sat there off for 6 years doing nothing. Is this thing ok...

    Shrinking a front door void

Wakey You are going to like what we are now doing. 1.6 wide double mahogany doors with stained glass.. Rather befitting for the building. I will post pics once its fitted. Thanks to all for talking me out of buggering up the front of the house.....

    Shrinking a front door void

So. Rather than fight this bugger, and upon advice above, we/I have made an executive decision. Stick the door back on Ebay and get one that not only fits the bigger opening, but (as pointed out), compliments the building. I have my eye on a nice set of oak double doors that will do just...

    Shrinking a front door void

Done that John, on number three. Not sure I want to go through all that again for the sake of a front door.....

    Shrinking a front door void

Unfortunately Wakey, wife and mother in law have spoken. So I am stuck with reducing the front door by 500mm.

    Shrinking a front door void

This will probably be a new one for many. I have bought a pub and converting to a house. The front door is 160cm wide and I want to fill it in by 500mm (wife, door, choice, smaller). Simple blockwork column or timber frame ?

Putting a beam in an extension

Steel is a third the price of the Glulam so steel it is. Thanks to all who commented

Putting a beam in an extension

Cheers chaps. I'll price up a steel and a glulam on Monday and go from there. I do know however that wood casings for steels are more expensive than the steel itself so may have to go with a plasterboard covering.....

Putting a beam in an extension

Someone should tell that to the 60 metre run of 50 ft high bloody fir trees in my back garden. Turn your back for one minute and they have reached for the sky. :D glulam looks the part, any idea on pricing for a 5.6M one. I could wait until Monday but any indicative price would be...

Putting a beam in an extension

Ok dok, here we go. I currently have a flat roof, nothing above, non load bearing, kitchen 5mtrs deep and 6 metres wide. The back wall is blockwork and the roof joists sit happily on this. I now want to extend out another 4 metres and knock this wall out having one large kitchen. To...

    Terminating Fire exit signs

No conduit as far as I can trace. Flush boxes seem to be the "standard" but it means I have lots of butt ugly blanks everywhere.....

    Terminating Fire exit signs

Ok, contentious subject terminating electrics, but I have a problem. Changing an old commercial building to residential. It has lots of fire exit signs and emergency lighting, all of which are no longer required. Due to the age of the building I think it virtually impossible to trace the...

    Discharge of Planning Conditions

Well, I managed to get my answers and so for anyone else going through the same process. The change of use planning permission automatically gives "Permitted development rights" to the new property from day 1 To change from Business rates to Domestic rates you need to contact the council...

    Discharge of Planning Conditions

Sorry to open this again, but it seems closed and saves adding another subject to the pot. Against all odds and without a planning consultant or architect I have managed to get a change of use on a public house to residential. The only confusion is that the permission has one condition that...

Chnaging house back from three phase

Well John, let us hope that once the new cables are in and the requirement for the butt ugly pole have passed, that those meddlesome kids do come round one night and saw down that pole

Chnaging house back from three phase

Back to the single phase at the front by the sound of it  Meddling kids won't be too much of a problem as we are so countrified that the last time I saw someone walk past the house they were chasing a runaway cow...
