Help desperately needed - replacing light switches

The intact switch has 8 terminals, none of which are marked with COM, L, L1 or L2! 6 terminals are taken up with 3 blue and 3 yellow, there is a red in terminal 7 and terminal 8 is empty. The spare two red wires are connected via a terminal block. The new 1G switch has 3 terminals, L, L1 and...

Help desperately needed - replacing light switches

Hi, really need some help please with what I thought would be a simple job! I'm replacing three switches that control the hallway and landing light, a 1G 2W in the hall, and 2 x 2G 2W, one at the foot of the stairs and another upstairs. Both the 2G 2W switches control the upstairs landing...

Low water pressure/no water at all from bleed valve

Does that mean accessing the manifold to unblock it? Or might flushing the system clear it?

Low water pressure/no water at all from bleed valve

Can anyone explain this? I tried bleeding a cold rad this morning (expecting there to be air in the system) but when I opened the bleed valve only a trickle of water came out (no air). So I closed the lockshield valve expecting the water pressure to increase, but instead the water stopped...

    Has the motorised valve gone?

errr..... no. Some plumber he was! He was the same plumber who left the lockshield valves fully open on 4 of the rads. I've never done a mains flush on a vented system so would be grateful for any tips! :)

    Has the motorised valve gone?

It's open vented and the header tank is filling the system up ok. Apparantly another plumber changed a towel rad last year and when he took the old one off he was covered in a flood of black sludge! I suspect there may be blockages somewhere in the system. Is the only solution to have to...

    Has the motorised valve gone?

Help needed please! My uncle's house has 11 rads fed via microbore, a brand new Grundfos 15-16-130 pump and a 15-20 year old Potterton Netaheat boiler (serviced every year and heats water ok). Few weeks ago he asked me to look at a non-working rad in the bathroom. I noticed the lockshield...

Best way to heat a shower room

Hi all, some advice needed please. I had an extension on the house this year which included a shower/toilet room (measures 8m3 with three external walls). I didn't bother plumbing a wet radiator in as I did not believe my boiler would handle any more (it's a Glowworm 30cxi with 9 radiators on...

Adding a PIR and a double switch to an existing light/switch

Thanks for the quick reply. I only have one cable coming into the original switch, with brown, blue and earth wires. I should have said I am actually replacing a damaged PIR with a new one, but this time am fitting a double switch to replace a very dodgy 3 pin plug that the previous...

Adding a PIR and a double switch to an existing light/switch

Hi I've been trying to find a previous thread to help me on this but failed! I currently have a single light switch in my garage to operate a fluorescent tube, wired with a twin (blue and brown) and earth. I want to add an external PIR light and swap the single switch to a double so that I...

Periodic Inspection and Test - What's it all about?

Right chaps, here's the situation. Had the guys in Saturday to complete the electrics on the new extension. They replaced 2 old fuseboxes with a new consumer unit for the whole house (charge - £300, which seems fair) and then carried out the PIR (charge £150). I estimate the total time spent...

Periodic Inspection and Test - What's it all about?

Hi guys, thanks for your input. One final question, which is hopefully a simple yes or no answer, should the guy carrying out the PIR test every single electrical socket and light fitting in the house? Thanks.

Periodic Inspection and Test - What's it all about?

The PIR is for a small extension I am having on the house and the company I have asked to do the electrics said it would be wise to have one done (the property is 200 years old if that makes any difference). It seems like a good thing to have as "peace of mind"? The house is detached, has 3...

Periodic Inspection and Test - What's it all about?

Hi I've just had a quote of £150+VAT from a company to carry out a Periodic Inspection and Test on Existing Circuitry and I have a couple of questions which I would very much appreciate someone answering:- 1. Is this a fair price? 2. What exactly should they do for this fee? 3. How long...

Boxing in an Air Admittance Valve

Hi Just had to fit a 1m high air admittance valve next to the toilet in a newly built shower/toilet room. However, it looks pretty ugly so I want to box it in with some MDF, but will that affect how it works? Any advice is appreciated. Cheers

    Garden Lights

Hi, some advice please. I am rigging up 8 garden spotlights, each one has an 80w PAR38 bulb. However, I want to "daisy-chain" them together so that I am left with only one plug at the end to go into the mains supply. My question is, what size fuse should I use for the plug? Cheers...
