House Server - question regarding the support to the main water tank

Thanks very much indeed for all the advice. Upgrading this sounds like a pretty straightforward (and hopefully not too expensive) job so we can put it to one side for a minute as it does not appear to be a show stopper in relation to the purchase. Thanks again for all the advice from everyone.

House Survey - The roof is not adequately wind braced and strapped ?

Thanks for coming back. The mortgage company have offered the mortgage. I wonder if this is something that is expensive to sort out, whether we need to get a structural engineer to look at this before continuing with the purchase. Thanks

House Server - question regarding the support to the main water tank

Hi, could I ask for some advice please. A relative is just purchasing their first house (3 bed semi built 1985) and the Home Buyer report includes a section about the water tank in the loft Upgrading the nature of support to the main tank would be prudent. Tanks must never be placed on sheets...

How to repair holes in ceiling from removed warm air vents

Thanks for all the info - I think I need to find a plasterer to come and take a look. If I want to cut holes for lights then I guess this would be dangerous, even if the artex was skimmed over. Thanks again

Hi, would really appreciate some advice. I need to remove the warm air vents from our upstairs ceilings and was wondering how the professionals might tackle this. We have a 70's house and all the ceilings are covered in the speckled effect artex ( I assume it is artex? ). Removing the vents...

2 Quotes for new heating - what option should I choose - advice appreciated

Thanks for the info - I am more than happy to make an informed decision but it is beyond my capability to decide whether I need a 28kW, 32kW or 37kW boiler - three companies - three different size boilers recommended.

2 Quotes for new heating - what option should I choose - advice appreciated

Excellent advice. I have just been out boiling the kettle. I have no idea what you are talking about regarding the boiler sizing but I successfully used the kettle to fill a bucket of water. I took this upstairs and tipped it over the head of my other half who was standing in the shower. She can...

2 Quotes for new heating - what option should I choose - advice appreciated

As the original poster I just wanted to say thanks for all the info. To be honest, the subject matter has now turned to things way over my head. A few years ago we wanted to change our warm air heating but ended up keeping it due to the difference in opinions across the various...

2 Quotes for new heating - what option should I choose - advice appreciated

Neither the independent heating engineer or BG engineer properly checked the incoming water supply. The independent did turn on the kitchen tap and say that should be fine. I have just run off 5l in to a bucket from the kitchen cold tap and it took around 18-19 sec so I guess this makes the...

2 Quotes for new heating - what option should I choose - advice appreciated

Thanks very much indeed for all the information. I think the un-vented option is the way to go and I can also then run the shower off it. The engineer did not check the water supply at all so I will just need to get that checked. Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

2 Quotes for new heating - what option should I choose - advice appreciated

Thanks for the info. I have read up on combination boilers and I understand the main pros and cons. However, reading around, there seem to be many different views about them. There are currently 4 adults in our house but this will reduce to 2 over the coming months. The electric shower is often...

Yes I agree, I guess I will need to question this if I decide to go with the cylinder. Could I ask what you think about the combi option - does this sound the correct size and would you recommend this over the cylinder option? Thanks for your assistance.

Hi and thanks for the info - I am so sorry, I put the wrong size boiler in option 2. The boiler quoted is actually a 630 and not an 830!!! Sorry. I have amended this in the original post now.

2 Quotes for new heating - what option should I choose - advice appreciated

Hi, just to clarify. An independent engineer has supplied a quote that includes the 2 options that I am thinking about. It was BG engineers who came on another day prior to this and could not agree amongst themselves.
