    Extension Roof & Guttering Options

Hi Please see image attached. Looking for some general discussion and recommendation on the roof type and gutter detail to a proposed rear extension. The extension will be constructed tight up against a boundary. Nothing is constructed the other side of the boundary and we want all guttering...

    Extension over existing manhole

Great photos. The question does not related to the foul run protection when passing through a foundation. The 300mm exclusion zone with lintel bridging detail is fairly standard and covered within the NHBC standards. The question really related to the interpretation of the guidance documents...

    Extension over existing manhole

Good afternoon. Looking at my options to altering a proposed rear & side extension. I want to increase the side extension to the rear to form a modified wrap around build. The constraint is the position of the existing manhole which serves my own property + the 2 adjacent neighbors. I would...

    Post fitting barge boards

You want to see the job left by 2 sets of so called "qualified" and "competent" tradesmen. They probably understood all the acronyms though, so its all good:rolleyes:

    Post fitting barge boards

Awesome! thanks for the clarity! Just to confirm the arrangement is as shown on the snap shot, to keep half bond on the tiles. So I will be cutting the: Row 1: T&H Row 2: First (verge) and last tile. Is this correct? Is there anything else I need to bear in mind when installing the under...

    Post fitting barge boards

Yes, but what does T&H stand for? Tongue & horse? Sorry i'm clearly not a roofer so i'm not all 'hip' with the lingo. Cheers !

Thanks for your reply. Putting the cuts against the wall also makes sense. Can you clarify what you meant by T&H cut? Cheers!

    Post fitting barge boards

Evening, I'm setting out my tiles to be installed onto my porch roof. I will be installing Redland plain tiles @ 164mm wide for standard tile and 249mm wide for tile + 1/2. My roof is a total of 1520mm wide from the existing property wall to the verge. This includes a 50mm overhang. This has...

    Post fitting barge boards

My ridge board is sat into the inner block work skin. Are you saying that is should have protruded to the outside skin? How does this impact on the proposal of fixing a rafter directly to the external blockwork skin? Can you give some more detail please. Thanks!

This was my thought exactly but had been advised against this... I still can't see why it would not be a suitable installation.

    Post fitting barge boards

Good Morning I'm in the processed of constructing a double skin block work porch and have now come to the roofing element of the project. I would like some barge boards fitted to the front elevation / front gable to create a finish like so. Unfortunately at the time of having the roof rafter...

DIY porch build out of line with existing building

Thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated. What do you think about the following; continue the build 10mm off and inline with what's already built. Thicken the render up by 5 or 10mm on the one side to try and bring the building line back to square up.

DIY porch build out of line with existing building

Thanks for the reply. Of course the sketch is exaggerated  Hatch? Do you mean stagger out? To be honest I realized the mistake prior to casting the slab but managed to get convinced it would be OK. I'm now thinking about the impact this will have on the roof structure. The rafters would...

Cavity Wall insulation advice - can it be done yourself? Damp?

The installation team suggesting installing a french drain to the perimeter of the building to prevent moisture sitting on the outside skin of brickwork and therefore reduce the risk of moisture saturation. I did'nt go ahead with the install in the end as my house couldn't accommodate the french...

DIY porch build out of line with existing building

Hi, So i got a bit carried away and decided to build myself a DIY porch (no planing or building regs required). I found porch was difficult to set out due to the corner of the building protruding past the building line. Anyway, I have now learned a few lessons and have discovered that my...

Insulation of extension ceiling.Pitched roof/cathedral ceiling

that would require removal of the roof covering? Id' go with as Jed's suggested. 100mm between and then 50mm over. Or you could reduce is down and have insulated plasterboard, although im not a fan of the stuff.

Cavity Wall insulation advice - can it be done yourself? Damp?

I looked at having my cavities filled with blown granular insulation. I have a post ware 1950's property with a low damp proof course (just a thick mortar bed, no signs of slate) I was advised against it for the very reason of bridging the cavity.

Removing tree stump in tight spot

Hi, So i'm removing some trees left to grow wildly out of control by the previous homeowner. I have some problematic stumps lefts which have grown between a garden boarder and the fence line. The concrete boards are bowed. Any recommendations of how i could go about cutting these below the...
