replacement keyless chuck for hammer drill

Thanks. It seems like it might not fit. I had assumed that thread sizes would be standard, but I was in Wickes today and saw this which seemed to expect a bigger spindle than that on the Bosch. So, any thoughts as to whether I would be left having to get a genuine replacement? They seem to be...

extra water running into toilet cistern?

For anyone with the same set-up as me with the same flush valve (might be a few as it's the valve that came with a Wickes toilet): seals by that manufacturer don't seem to be available, but a Geberit seal with 63mm outside diameter, 32mm inside diameter and thickness of 2.8mm seems to work...

How do I Lay Granite Slabs on a Gravel Patio?

I would prepare a full mortar bed about 50 mm deep for each slab, laying one at a time. (Read about beds here. I would use sharp sand and cement, mixed with a bit of water. That site also has loads if information about laying paving.) If I needed to build up to finish flush with the sleeper, I...

replacement keyless chuck for hammer drill

I am looking for a replacement keyless chuck for use with a Bosch 18V hammer drill. Will this work on hammer action? The same product (as far as I can tell) is described a bit differently here. I'm getting a bit lost with the different descriptors (hammer, rotary, percussion, impact, etc.) Thanks!

extra water running into toilet cistern?

Thanks, folks. Off to find a seal. (y) Wouldn't have got this far without your help.

extra water running into toilet cistern?

Aha. The basepart won't budge, so I'm confident it's not that. But when I removed the seal to take photos look what I saw... The underneath (the bit that makes contact with the basepart) looks fine. but the other side (the side that's concealed when the seal is fitted) has a series of...

extra water running into toilet cistern?

So I got the top of the flush valve off and had a look at the seal. (Thanks for the tip: had no idea they did that.) All looks to be absolutely fine (not perished, gunged etc.) but presumably for such an intermittent fault there might be nothing to see? The valve isn't a Fluidmaster, but made...

extra water running into toilet cistern?

Thanks. That would certainly explain the randomness of it happening. It doesn't seem to be cause by any other changes in the pipework (starting shower, turning taps etc.) I'll try to have a look tonight and see if I can identify the seal you describe.

extra water running into toilet cistern?

From time to time our toilet makes a sound as if there is water going into the cistern, but only very briefly: it only lasts only a second or so, if that. There seems to be no obvious reason for it happening (it doesn’t seem to happen when we run taps, or when we have just flushed it etc). I’d...

    junction box in loft

By memory, I think the cables from one of the switches emerge near to the loft hatch so I may be able to use that, along with the neutral going to a nearby light. And yes, that switch controls just one light.

    junction box in loft

Thanks. I believe that the cables go up from the switches into the loft. When I get the chance, and a protective mask, I will see if I can find a permanent live from a switch near a neutral to put in a junction box for the new lights.

    junction box in loft

Picture attached. Incidentally, I have seen another switch on the same floor with one cable going to COM and another going to L1: there is no third one as in this picture. I haven't seen any kind of junction box in there before, so if such a thing would be any kind of size, then I doubt...

    junction box in loft

Thanks. I'd rather avoid having to switch the lights on downstairs for the lights in the loft to work if possible. I will try to find a permanent live, but with the state of the loft, I'm not hopeful.

    junction box in loft

Thanks. I'll go back into the loft when I get the chance. In the meantime, I've checked the light fittings upstairs which are all accessible to a degree from the loft and they all seem to be the same as in the picture i.e. two neutrals and a switched live. What would realistic options be for...

    junction box in loft

Thanks. I hadn't thought of using the light fitting as a junction box. To do that though I think I'd need to enlarge the hole in the noggin to get the new cable through so maybe not easier than a junction box. But possible. If that's a switched live then presumably any new loft lights...

    junction box in loft

I am looking to put a junction box in an existing lighting circuit to run to new loft lights. A convenient place would be just above a light fitting in one of the bedrooms. The wiring at said light fitting looks like this. In the loft, the wiring looks like this. My question is, does...

removing plaster - best tool for the job?

Grand. I'll try hand tools first and then move on to SDS+chisel if necessary. It's not all that well stuck on - which is why I am taking it all off!

Is this do-able for a beginner

If you haven't already had a go, I found this post on general plastering advice really useful a few years ago when I hadn't plastered before.

removing plaster - best tool for the job?

I'm planning to use an SDS drill to remove a load of plaster (hall and stairs). I'll need to buy some kind of bit. What's the best to use? I've seen flat chisels, spade chisels and this chap even uses a tile lifter. Or maybe it doesn't really matter? Thanks, wrathkeg
