The ground floors are made of concrete. The rads are supplied by a pipe which comes out of the wall horizontally and then goes 90 degrees upwards to the valves.

Double entry valve / inlet-outlet microbore rads

thanks for that...... our pipes go horizontally into the wall, so I presume that they then go down under the floorboards ? what about downstairs (we have concrete floors) - would you suggest to leave the pipes as microbore here, as I guess the only way to cut them is to dig a hole in the...

Double entry valve / inlet-outlet microbore rads

Hi Be warned - very dumb question coming up !! I am about to put TRV's on my microbore system, but looking at some posts here I am confused. What are "Double entry" valves and what are "seperate inlet -outlet" valves ? Our rads have one feed on either side of the rad, so I guess...

    Draining microbore system

so, if the "drain tap" (whatever it is on the rads) is below the TRV's I should be Ok to drain through here and then fit the trv's ? I dont mind if the carpets get a bit mucky as we will be replacing them all anyway. there is no valve near the boiler and i cant find anything similar anywhere...

Hi I am looking to drain my microbore heating system as I want to put TRV's on the rads (there are none on at all and some of the current valves are broken anyway). On my old system at my previous house there was a small "tap" downstairs that I connected a hose to to drain the system, but I...

the toilet etc was in the house from the start, and are actually on the "higher" oart of the slope. Directly below teh ensuite is the hallway, as it was all built in one go. The floors do not bounce at all - it all seems quite solid except for the fact that it slopes.....

Knocking noise from pipes/boiler even tho' boiler is off

Hi, I hope someone can help.... Every night we get a loud bang somewhere in the heating pipes. This happens about every 5-6 minutes, and sounds like someone has hit a pipe with a hammer. It continues for about 5-6 hours after the boiler/heating has switched off, so i cant imagine it is a pipe...

Fitting new boiler - should I also convert from microbore?

When you say the the clanking we get is most lilkely caused by the boiler, how do I find this out ? What happens is that as soon as the boiler comes on, there is a loud clanking that sounds the same as when the pipes expand and catch on something such as a joist, except that this happens the...

Fitting new boiler - should I also convert from microbore?

Hi We will be fitting a new boiler in a couple of months (the current one is really old and clanky) and I wondered if that would be an oportune time to replace the current microbore system with "normal" heating (as you can see, I am not a plumber so I hope you understand what I mean by "normal"...

    Fitting TRV's on microbore system

Hi I am looking to fit TRV's on our microbore system, but only want to fit them on about 70% of the radiators (the other rooms we dont use that often so can live with them being on or off). Is this OK to do, or do we need to fit the TRV's on all the rads to keep the system balanced (? - not...

How to replace damaged floorboards on a landing

Hi - we recently moved into a house in which there had been a leak from the hot water tank and so the floorboards on the landing got wet. The previous owner did not replace them, and so now they are very springy and creak and groan whenever you walk on them (and I also think they then are...
