    Fan Oven Screw Won't Grip

Thanks for the advice Gaz. I need to work out what size the hole is now and what clearance I have at the back. Have you any idea whether these nuts are OK at 500 degrees centigrade? I know this is hot compared with most ovens but it is the temperature ours goes up to.

    Fan Oven Screw Won't Grip

This makes sense Alan. Of course the only thing I can insert behind the hole in the back of the oven is something smaller than the hole. This then means that the nut can come out again. Getting around behind that plate would mean completely removing and disassembling the oven. Even if I did...

    Fan Oven Screw Won't Grip

The cover for the fan in our fan oven has fallen off. This is a stamped plate with two tongues at the bottom and one screw at the top to hold it. The single self-tap tapered screw appeared to have been secured into the insulation behind the lining as the hole in the metal is much too large for...

    Buried pipe to extend hose

I think that may be my best alternative Rob. Nice to know it is the right choice of piping.

Ban; seal the ends and all joins. I guess I am pessimistic about joins staying sealed once buried.

    Buried pipe to extend hose

Thanks for that nice clear reply Rob. Burying it so deep for the whole run could be an issue in this case. The stone of the patio and its base might help shield the pipe from mechanical damage from above a bit. Are there alternatives to MDPE which can better deal with freezing though?

    Buried pipe to extend hose

I am having a patio laid in front of my house. I have the opportunity to put a pipe underground from the back of the property, where my outside tap is, through to the front. This will save me running a hose the 15m or so just to get it close to the cars, front gardens, patio, garage and so on...

Garage Power - and I mean POWER!

Bernard Thanks for your suggestion. If I do go for a duct then what are they made of? Does it matter that it will probably inevitably get water inside? At the moment I still assume that burying a suitable cable would be the easiest solution.

Garage Power - and I mean POWER!

I can add that the linear distance between the walls below both consumer units is 9.7 metres. So with getting to the junction boxes at both ends then it will be about 11 m of armoured cable.

Garage Power - and I mean POWER!

How thick a cable should I lay to my garage? Hi. I am having a new patio laid between my house and my garage making it a good time to sink any cables in the ground even if they are not used just yet. We already have an electric car which charges from the garage. I can see that in the future I...

    Scratched Windows

Bosswhite and misterhelpful; thanks for your further input. That is really hugely useful. Yes; I did mean sanding to remove the paint. I am not very clever with this stuff, I had not thought about the process of sanding down before painting. It just seemed obvious to me that the scratches which...

    Scratched Windows

Thanks misterhelpful; here is a close-up of some of the scratches. This is not one of the worst areas but it does show the issue. The white at the bottom is the frame, the black is glass and the grey are markings are in mm. Never having attached anything before I do hope the picture works... ...

    Scratched Windows

Bosswhite. OK; maybe I should have made this clearer so my fault - apologies. There are scratches in the glass. Paint has been removed. The paint that is left is in the form of minute coagulations. These have, in some cases, snagged on the scratches which, because they are new, have very sharp...

    Scratched Windows

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this so sorry if it is not. I have had my window frames painted. The technique they used was to paint water-based gloss paint on the frames and also onto the glass. They did not create a neat edge up to and just on the glass but instead paint...

Intermittent Boiler - could it be Mains Gas Pressure?

Gav, absolutely. To be honest I know it is likely to just be another faulty circuit board on the boiler or one of a number of other faults I could not even guess at. I have got a plumber booked to come and sort it. I was just curious that the failures so far have coincided with particular...

Intermittent Boiler - could it be Mains Gas Pressure?

Thanks Picasso. What is a RGI? I would guess that I need to contact the gas company if the problem might be in the meter.

Intermittent Boiler - could it be Mains Gas Pressure?

Friends My central heating boiler is playing up. It works some of the time but is intermittent. When it does not work it appears to try and start but then stop itself before the burners properly ignite. It waits a few seconds and then tries again. I can hear the click of a solenoid on and off...

    Flashing GU10 LED lights

Bernard, Eric and Taylor - thanks very much for that feedback. Really useful, and important, points. On the issue of which conductors to use my limited experience is that it does not matter - you always get induction - regardless of swapping the conductors around. I have not exhaustively...

    Flashing GU10 LED lights

Chri5 Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. In fact I had used the search facility to look for any information about flashing LED lights on two-way circuits Chri5 despite your speculative statement above. I did not find anything that had already been posted which is why I sorted...
