Got a couple of doors painted with oil- based gloss. I'd like to repaint them with a quick drying gloss due to the presence of kids and pets. I've got a tin of Zinnser Bin 123. Can I just paint over the gloss with this and apply the quick drying gloss over that or is it more involved? Any...

Decided to try some Zinnser 123 on it as suggested elsewhere. No success. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet or turn it back to the original colour (not likely to happen). On the plus side, I now have a big tin of Zinnser 123 to ask questions about. Watch this space. Thanks for the replies.

When I first decorated the bathroom I used clear silicone along the top of the tile trims and down the outside of the shower enclosure cos I thought it would look better. I've now redecorated using a different colour and you can see the first colour through the existing silicone. I've had a go...

Hi blightymam. Never even considered anything like that. Brought up in the emulsion walls and ceilings and gloss everything else era. Obviously paint products and finishes have moved on. Will definitely look into that. Thanks.

Have just spotted a post discussing 2010 compliant paints having a high VOC (?) content and therefore taking longer to dry and cure. That could be my problem. Last time I decorated I used paint that was probably pre-2010.

Just carried out a load of decorating using Johnston's non-drip gloss. What a nightmare. Something like ten hours to become touch dry. In some places that have been done for over a week it still feels a bit sticky. Need to do bedrooms next and was just wondering if there was a faster drying...

Too late. Been out and got solvent based primer and an undercoat. Thanks anyhow Joe. 2.5 litre tin of quick drying Dulux primer and undercoat anyone? Going cheap.

Got some Dulux primer and undercoat a while back. Decorating a mix of new and previously glossed wood. Anyhow, took the tin out this morning to make a start and discovered it's the quick drying stuff.(That'll teach me to go shopping without my glasses). I'm guessing that I can't use this stuff...

Well, I sanded and am truly impressed with the finish. Just goes to show, it pays to follow instructions sometimes. Thanks for the replies.

The finish isn't too bad at the minute, so I'm trying to understand the justification behind sanding before the final coat. By that reasoning, I could apply 99 coats and then sand before the 100th. Just wondering what the sanding actually brings to the job if you see what I mean.

WB 24CDi. 17 years old although it's a bit like Triggers broom. New fan, plate HE, gas valve, circuit board, AAV, expansion vessel. I'm sure there's bits I've missed. Will have to change it one day, just can't decide on a location for it.

Can you come and build mine?
