    Upcoming job for daughter

She is getting a new TV and wants it on the wall. Sky box will be in unit below TV. I intend to add a single socket behind the tv and an outlet for the feed from the stb. To future proof considering burying a piece of 25 or 38 mm square conduit between 2 back boxes so cables can be replaced...

    Todays domestic job...

We had a semi (moved in 1991) that was built 1952 - all rubber insulation apart from the earths on the socket circuits which were bare copper. Some insulation disintegrated as the wires were moved when it was rewired. It had neutral fuses as well. Son wan't happy as I wouldn't let him play...

    strip LEDs

Is that as simple as a 10v power supply instead of a 12v or does it need some black magic with resistors?

    Shower Tray Problem

Replacement tray arrived FoC, just need to strip the old one out, the more we stand on it the more it seems to move, and the more it seems to be the skin only. Just need her indoors to allow me to make a mess, again! The shower is usable, it just feels awful and rustly under your feet. If...

    strip LEDs

I have to replace some under cabinet flourescents in the kitchen and rather than do a like for like was looking at LED tape, but then it gets complicated. Considering RGBW and dimmable (she wants green but will change her mind and white cabability would be useful). Now I understand that I...

    Shower Tray Problem

The floor is 22 mm sealed chipboard. Expecting eye rolls. I feel that replacing this with ply will weaken the floor - joints to ply will not be as strong as joists may not be where the joints are. Do you put ply on top or replace the chipboard?

    Shower Tray Problem

The more I look at it the more I think the plastic has separated from the resin but it may be my imagination. The movement didn’t appear until the shower was used and about a month after the tray was installed. Installed a slightly smaller one (1400x800) the same way last year and it is fine...

Tececomn Premier Elite 24 - Changing PIRs

Thanks for the assistance. I thought that would be the case with the codes but didn’t think to tell her before the engineer called and he didn’t check with her. They are different now. Will see how the Veritas PIRs go, she is getting rag dolls so they grow up to be pretty big cats!

Tececomn Premier Elite 24 - Changing PIRs

My Daughter bought a house last year that has this panel and PIRs (18 months old). The installers engineer upset her when he did the handover and she doesn't want them back. First question: They came out and changed the Engineer code 10 days ago and she asked him to set it to a number which is...

2amp and 5amp plugs and sockets

Isn't the new one the std Swiss plug.. Have been and is a stupid design. Triple sockets arranged in a circle on one faceplate so you can't fit two larger rated plugs at the same time - unless you force them or you use a lower rates plug. .... Have two plugs ready to make up extensions with uk...

    Hard wiring a video doorbell.

We already have a 13a socket on the upstairs lighting circuit (tv booster) and it has never caused a trip, probably because (1) she doesn’t go in the loft and(2) she doesn’t have a welder! Btw split board with Hager 6 a Mcbs on the lighting circuits. The socket will not be that easy to reach...

    Hard wiring a video doorbell.

Wow. Been away for a while and come back with a question to find BAS has left and already been replaced. Thanks for the guidance guys, have looked at voltage drop and think I will use 1mm t&e, the transformer has 22 awg flex and 10m of that gives too big a voltage drop (although I could fit a...

    Hard wiring a video doorbell.

Wife wants one of these and I don’t want a power lead dangling down the wall to a wall wart. Connection between inside and outside is ok (long drill) but I want to hide the transformer in the garage about 5-6 metres away. Transformer is 15 v 1.2 a output and wall unit claims to be the same...

Electric trains ( from Converting 3 phase to single phase )

There was once a three phase locomotive built. The supply phases were connected in catenary and the two running rails. IIRC It was the Swiss, probably a man called “Brown” of Brown Boveri later ABB following merger with ASEA. Now on the original post think about how the train travels from one...
