    Teak windows

On some of the windows there is very little room for the beading, only 3 or 4mm in some cases. Helpfully the window pane is silicon-ed into the frame making it impossible to take them outto make room for the beading without cracking the pane. I am trying to minimize spend here - these...

    Heavily overgrown garden

Hi all, I need to clear a heavily overgrown garden; Briers, extremely thick tufts of grass and Gorse at the edges. I planned to level with a strimmer and then take a mower to it. However my two stroke petrol strimmer couldn't make a dent in it. Access is tricky so I can't get machinery in...

    Removing moss from a roof

Ok, ok ... I hear you, no power hosing. I will investigate moss remover, but its not a thin layer of moss evenly spread - its great clumps of moss, they should lift easily enough but clearly am afraid to crack the tiles. Roof is old fashioned slate. Ray K

Trick to find a septic tank

After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, its has been found! By the way - take a bow, all those who recommended the "metal detector", that would have worked but in the end was unnecessary, as in a fit of frustration with the seller (and out of fear of losing his commission), the estate...

Trick to find a septic tank

There definitely is a septic tank _somewhere_. The council inspected and past it in 1988 - I have documentation from them, so it existed then. I spent three hours trying to find it on Sunday, with no luck. So in frustration, I threw down the gauntlet down to the vendor on Monday and said...

Trick to find a septic tank

Hi, I am struggling to find the septic tank in the large garden of the house we are considering buying. I followed the direction of the outflow from the kitchen into the garden and dug holes in seeming likely spots (balds). Found a lot of stones, some cut plastic piping which may mean I am in...

    Teak windows

Hi all, Looking at buying a house - bit of fixer upper we know. In the last 5 - 10 years the owner spent some serious money upgrading the houses original teak windows to be double glazed. I think a reasonable job was done, I am not sure how successful these "upgrades" ever are - but now the...
