Our microwave is circa 8 years old (the same as our dishwasher, on another thread!). It has recently starting making a moaning/groaning sound when going round. It doesn't seem to do it when nothing is on the glass dish, but when you put something in it, it starts with the moaning/groaning...

Strange this. I went back in to the airing cupboard and moved both switches from automatic to manual and back again a few times. So far, touch wood, it's all working fine again :o/

Hi Pete. Had a quick look at the boxes. I have two? 1. Silver Honeywell with black wire. Switch set to automatic (can't read the other settings). 2. White box with white wire. Switch set to automatic with other option of manual (?) Not sure if this helps?

Cheers Pete. Is that an easy thing to do? Have noticed that despite this morning, we are having the same issue tonight. I have however noticed something else strange. So, timer on timed and not on. No red lights on the timer (Potterson?) to indicate it is on. Timer is 17.30 to 19.00...

Sorry. You are right. It was the spindle that snapped. I have opened it up and radiator was heating all over. Ok. It was actually leaking water from here without the bolt on. I guess that putting it back on will prevent any leaking (by leaking I mean just a very slow dribble from the bottom of...

Right. Tested heating, and radiator working fine. Main issue though now is that water is seeping from the valve! Have I turned it anticlockwise too far? Or could it be air in the radiator as I've bled it since and there was quite a bit of air in it?

Ok. Have turned the top bit a few times round and also the bolt (anticlockwise). I guess leave and try again later to check its heating all over? If not, turn again? To be fair, it's actually easy to turn the top bit with some pliers.

Whilst I agree if its not going to work, but only trying to establish is, if the valve is clockwise, is that open or closed? I'm asking because if I have closed the valve, why did it drain the whole system? Sometimes, when times are hard, you do try and fix things yourself. If it goes wrong...
