Broken plastic nuts securing taps to bath

Thanks guys, just picked up a pack of 2x 3/4" brass back nuts from B&Q for £1.29. Same price as 1 plastic one, which also had a narrower flange, not sure why plastic would be twice as expensive as brass... Only worry with brass is that the plastic nuts were obviously the weakest point, so...

Broken plastic nuts securing taps to bath

Accidentally leant on my bath taps a bit heavily and broke the plastic nuts securing them to the bath: They appear to have a 1" central hole diameter: This is what the area under the bath looks like: I assume I just need to: 1. Buy a couple of these plastic nuts. 2. Turn...

    Biasi 24S 'kettling'

Right, some backstory: last winter my hot water failed. Various local gas 'experts' wouldn't come out because they were clueless about Biasi and had tried and failed to fix this exact problem before. Eventually one of them gives me the number of this guy who knows what he's doing. He comes out...

    "Unfinished" flue question

Yeah, thanks for reminding me... *sigh* Still young... </denial> I bought some pre-mixed sand and cement mortar last night, so will see how it goes today! Doesn't do any harm to put it back though?

    "Unfinished" flue question

Thanks to you both. I'll switch the boiler off a couple of hours beforehand - the central heating isn't turned on yet anyway so it's just for the hot water. Do I need to leave it a while after as well or will the drying mortar not be negatively affected by the flue getting hot?

    "Unfinished" flue question

Thanks. :) Does the rubber collar come off easily? I'm thinking it's going to be rather tricky trying to hold it back and fill the gap without making a right mess of it...

    "Unfinished" flue question

When I had my boiler serviced, the chap said he was concerned that the flue pipe hadn't been sealed into the exterior wall, and there was a small risk of CO leaking into the house. Not concerned enough to condemn the boiler or anything, but I should still get it sorted. Basically, behind the...

    Slow-filling toilet, SIAMP fittings

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies, but keego had the perfect answer I think: split washer. Looks like I need one of these. I can't see them on the B&Q website, will they still have them in store? Thanks! Chris

    Slow-filling toilet, SIAMP fittings

Hi, So, I have a problem with my toilet... Essentially, the cistern has suddenly become extremely slow-filling. I think it's even filling too slowly to put enough pressure on the flush mechanism to close it, so what little water is coming in just dribbles through to the bowl. I'm currently...

    Triton Spellbind shower tripping RCD

Well, I didn't use any abbreviated words and I take a lot of care with my grammar, for the sake of clarity if nothing else. I only meant that just because the macro photo of the DP switch appeared to have fatter wires than the further-away shot of the shower, it didn't mean they were different...

Sorry, couldn't resist! :D I'm really grateful for your help. I *think* they're the same size, but I don't have time to unscrew the shower cover again tonight to check.

DP switch, innards. Yip, take a look... general setup under bath That'll be a plastered brick wall. Oh, and FYI chaps, looks like it's 6mm² all the way to the shower. Don't know why I didn't think to show you this bit before... Ta

    Triton Spellbind shower tripping RCD

It goes down behind the tiles to under the bath. It then disappears behind the skirting board and presumably runs under the (tiled, heated) floor and out onto the landing where it's connected to the switch. Personally, I think it was because he was an idiot. More generously, it could be that...

    Triton Spellbind shower tripping RCD

Experienced people: What chance do you think there is that I could get a 10mm cable up behind the tiles in the channel for the 6mm? Any chance I could pull the 6mm out bringing attached 10mm all the way through? Is this just crazy talk or can it often be done? No, the shower first tripped...

    Triton Spellbind shower tripping RCD

I wasn't using wood bits... Fortunately the third one I bought (increasing in price each time) did the job. Will that look horrible? It's quite a nice bathroom. It's a sloping extension roof on a Victorian terrace, I don't know if there's any "space" there to use. It's not below a...
