Best way to reduce high humidity in house

Thanks all for info and tips. I think I'll bite the bullet and try to keep house warmer and close windows. Just concerned about cost. I think the humidity is coming down with the posi vent now turned on max but it is taking a while. A week later it's more often 65 to 70 than 70 to 75. So...

Should new loft conversion to regs retain heat well, or will always lose heat fast?

Had a new loft conversion to regs. So it's supposed to have whatever the insulation is supposed to be to conform to regs. Looks like 100mm. It's hard/blocks of foam in walls in eves and looks like wool above ceiling. I can't see the whole ceiling though, only the bottom of it when I'm eves. But...

How to clean plaster off these velux frames without damaging them?

I found a plastic spudger which scrapes it off some but takes time and not perfect. Im going to tell the company the jobs not finished till they clean it, I shouldn't have to do this! Thanks for tips though.

How to clean plaster off these velux frames without damaging them?

I've had an attic conversion with 6 nice new white velux windows. I think they're wood with white paint. The plasterer has left the attached mess over them. The company say it's not their job to clean - plasterers don't clean. If I find one that does put them in touch. ‍ They said soap and...

Best way to reduce high humidity in house

The humidity in my house is over 70%, and we have condensation on windows all day and moldy. I have been trying my best to get it down but it wont go, and I am confused why its not. I just wondered how best to do it when its now winter, and we are keeping heating off to save money, so house is...

I nearly used the word battens. I completely forgot about the word noggins! Thanks for reply.

Do I need support purlin for non-tongue groove 18mm chipboard on 40cm centres?

I've had a loft done and the carpenter who laid the floor needed to cut a hole in boards to access bathroom fan. He then put purlins in to support the board when it goes back due to needing to cut out tongue and groove. See first image. I've now had to cut out a similar area elsewhere to...

Dry ridge system membrane not waterproof. Surely rain can get in through the plastic spacers?

Yes I sprayed water on because I could see it’s just a metal mesh and it drips through. Just seems stupid to me why it wouldn’t be waterproof. I’m not sure what function it serves other than stopping most water and just letting some through. I’ve put strips of water proof membrane under the...

Dry ridge system membrane not waterproof. Surely rain can get in through the plastic spacers?

I have a membrane over the top so it’s just the batten that would get wet so just thinking of rot. I’m going to put a waterproof membrane u see the brackets just in case I can’t think of a disadvantage having it under them.

Dry ridge system membrane not waterproof. Surely rain can get in through the plastic spacers?

New to dry ridge system. Put the plastic bracket/spacer in between tiles, put the clips in. It’s quite a large gap between tiles. I thought surely heavy rain and wind could force water over the edge of the plastic bracket. I thought that’s fine, the “waterproof” membrane then takes it down over...

Are slate nails supposed to come out easy?

I’ve looked online and other sites say copper is expensive. So maybe I got mixed up somewhere. Either way I chose the middle priced option but wish he did tell me copper would be better. I think I might use copper in the rest if it holds better.

Are slate nails supposed to come out easy?

So copper holds better? I’ve only done about a quarter. Perhaps I should go buy some copper ones for the rest. It’s just he said they’re the cheapest so I just assumed the more they cost the better they were, so copper must be the worse!

Are slate nails supposed to come out easy?

I’m slating a front door canopy. I’m not a roofer I’ve not done this before. I’ve nailed some slates in. The merchant sold me aluminium ones (he offered the choice of cheaper copper and something else more expensive too so I went in the middle). I had to remove some slates to move a batten. I...

Concerned this door canopy I am building wont hold my weight, or slate weight long term

I am building the attached door canopy. I need to sit atop it to finish top slates and ridge tiles. But I am concerned about it not being strong enough. I cant stop thinking about it. I am concerned the weight on top will push the rafters outward at the bottom. I am not concerned about it...

Think I’ve messed up the batten spacing

I’ve come to the conclusion when I read this, which is the advice on many sites, it must be referring to slates without holes and you put your own holes in because for pre-holed slates this recommendation is simply not true as there can be only one headlap due the holes already being there IF...

Think I’ve messed up the batten spacing

Ok but you need to know the headlap to work it out. No one could tell me. So I just placed the slates on battens on the floor and measured it. But key information I missed was the top of the slate needs to rest in the batten above.

How to know how much to overlap tiles (so covering the holes), so I can work out how many I need?

Something to add... many websites including the link above state the gauge/headlap would be recommended by the manufacturer. The problem I had was the roofing sales websites did not publish this. So I went to my local roofing merchant to take a look at tiles, and still no recommendation by the...

How to know how much to overlap tiles (so covering the holes), so I can work out how many I need?

My question was correct, I need to know how much to overlap the slate. No one could tell me! Once I saw the images it was obvious. And you are correct in that I didn't have a clue, which is why I asked the question! Now I know the answer, I have not purchased enough slate as the headlap I...
