Double glazed window unit handle stuck in locked position

Ok, thanks for that. Very helpful. Brute force it is then. I had tried pulling a bit harder on the handle but was worried I might go too far and make things worse. I felt I was putting quite a bit of force onto the handle and seemed to be starting to twist the window frame without the handle...

Double glazed window unit handle stuck in locked position

Thanks Gazman16. That was line of what I was thinking but thought there might be a less destructive option. It feels like the button isn't quite going down like it used to, as though there's something keeping it from moving fully into the down position where it'll allow the handle to move.. I...

Double glazed window unit handle stuck in locked position

Hi everyone, The window in my kitchen has got stuck open. It's the kind of window you can have open just a crack and locked in that position. This is the position the window is stuck in. The handle is in the horizontal, locked position. The handle has a button which you need to press...

Basin Mate - Where am I going wrong?

Ok, thanks for all the replies. After persevering with the Basin Mate as it was until it became obvious it was not going to go on without huge struggle I decided to cut it down to fit. It went on no problem after that and now my basin is sealed and watertight :) Merry Christmas!

Basin Mate - Where am I going wrong?

Following on from my previous post http://www.diynot.com/forums/plumbing/bathroom-basin-leaking-from-basin-waste-pipe-joint.348908/ I've been trying to fit the Basin Mate thing I got this morning. With the parts arranged as in the photos I can't seem to get the bottom half of the waste to screw...

Bathroom basin leaking from basin/waste pipe joint

Hey, thanks for that. I really appreciate your advice. I live more or less next door to Buy and Queue so I'll get round there first thing tomorrow. If you have time could you give me some pointers as to how I dismantle the waste/plughole assembly. I've never seen a basin in anything other...

Bathroom basin leaking from basin/waste pipe joint

Hi there, There's water leaking from my bathroom sink waste pipe. The leak appears at the top of the plastic collar where it meets the enamel of the basin. The water is leaking when the plug is in so I guess it must be getting past the chrome plug surround. I'm not sure if this has just...

Damp patch appeared by back door. Soil pipe leaking?

Hi all, I've noticed a damp patch which has appeared just inside my back door. It could've been there for a while without my seeing it or it could be fresh. Either way I need to find out where it's coming from. There is a couple of water pipes set into the concrete floor which run under where...

    What's this on my mantelpiece?

Not sure what it was dipped in tbh. Local bloke has a big tank filled with some potent fluid that dissolves paint, and probably most other things too. I got three doors done at the same time. I forget how much but round the £100 mark. It sounds a lot but when you consider the time and effort...

    What's this on my mantelpiece?

I have to agree with you Nige. Beats me why anyone would want to cover it in nasty white gloss.

    What's this on my mantelpiece?

Well, it took a while to get all the paint off this and even longer to post up the photo I took. [/img] Still no idea what the horrible green stuff was but the Nitromors and wire wool got through it when mixed with liberal quantities of elbow grease. There's an identical fireplace in...

    Bathroom and kitchen paint

Hey, thanks for all that info... By coincidence I was in my local Wilcos today and found some of their own brand kitchen matt :-) Not sure if it's quite the same as the flat matt joe-90 mentioned and I'm too lazy to go and look at the tin just now but it's definitely matt emulsion and...

    Bathroom and kitchen paint

Thanks Robbie... So if I understand you correctly it's the PVA in the paint which makes it shiny and also waterproof, depending on the amount used, matt having no PVA and therefore not good for damp areas? I'll have a look at soft sheen then Cheers :-)

    Bathroom and kitchen paint

Yes, I know... There are so many posts on here about this and the general consensus seems to be to go for acrylic eggshell. Fair enough but is there any reason I should not use acrylic matt, assuming there is such a thing. As I understand it modern eggshell is a bit shiny, although not as...

    What's this on my mantelpiece?

Thanks Nige but no replacement is required :-) The fireplace is coming along well. I've got all the gloss off and the green stuff seems to come off best if I cover it in Nitromors, wait for it to turn into paste and then attack it with wire wool. The wire wool picks it up well but soon gets...

    What's this on my mantelpiece?

Thanks Zampa! You're right. Going down with lead poisoning won't get my house sorted. I'd heard it'd be ok to sand leaded paint if it was damped down with water. I guess after the water has dried out you'll still have a load of poisonous dust to deal with so I guess this is best left to the...
