Using American 16 AWG wire for UK lighting?

Hi all, I am re-wiring a wall light of which the upper lighting is protected by a 6 amp circuit breaker. The lamp will be using 2 x 250v 25w bulbs in parallel. Q. To connect the light wiring to the t&e in the wall, can I use American 16 AWG stranded wire? US 16 AWG - 0.0508" US 16 AWG...

Converting US wall light to UK + adding extra bulbs

I've put in an extra cable and had the walls skimmed last week, so now have two cables for a 2 gang socket - one for the wall light, one for the ceiling. The initial reason behind wanting to stick with the rotary switch was to utilise the exitsing one. If i can no longer do that i...

Converting US wall light to UK + adding extra bulbs

OK, had a re-think. The whole idea was to retain as many original features as possible, including the rotary switch. As this is now not going to be possible, I will remove (and keep), the rotary switch and run 2 x striplights from one switch. Width of light - 310mm I have found a...

Converting US wall light to UK + adding extra bulbs

This was my plan, yes. Slim fluorescents - not my preferred choice, but a possibility. I figured they would need to be wired in parallel, but like to get confirmation before I do anything. This was indeed an oversight. Can only run it back to a 1-gang, so if I lose the rotary...

Converting US wall light to UK + adding extra bulbs

It's a screw-in fitting, US thread. It's currently using 2 x 25w incandescent bulbs, just want something similar if possible but don't think I will get it.

Converting US wall light to UK + adding extra bulbs

Hi all, I'm after some advice. I am converting a US wall light to UK wiring, but as I can't get the correct type of bulb in the UK, I would like to try to add two. Back of the light in it's current state below: Diagram below is the current wiring (wire colours not necessarily...

I think my ceiling was put up by Escher, how to fix?

Is "bond it" thick enough to bond to a ceiling without dropping off, as the area on the ceiling requiring filling is about a square foot of one inch thickness. And is this Thistle Bond It, is there an alternative if I cannot get this brand?

I think my ceiling was put up by Escher, how to fix?

Thanks. What is coming off the ceiling is thicker than paint, and is flexible. It comes off quite easily if you get under it, but is stuck quite solid to the ceiling. Does all of this need to come off, as it is now taking layers off of a previous shabby repair/skim job? It looks like...

I think my ceiling was put up by Escher, how to fix?

Hi all, After some advice on a bit of a dodgy ceiling. New house, doing lots of redocorating. I have just removed some cupboards from a bedroom, and they were hiding a bit of a problem with the ceiling (see picture). Over a 2' section towards a wall edge, the ceiling...

Replacement handle not working on upvc front door

Hi all, Recently moved in to a property and the front door handle broke on the day we moved in. It is a upvc door which looks like the handle has previously been replaced. The handle on the outside is not like a proper handle, but like a long panel of metal to grip to open the door with the...

Can someone advise on the wiring of this switch please

Hi all, hope someone can help. I am replacing a very old MK grid switch with a varilight one and am in the process of re-wiring. The old 6 gang grid had no labels on any of the wiring so I am doing a like-for-like swap, but the last switch I cannot figure out. Can someone tell me from the...
