    Boiler service - what's checked?

By noting successive meter readings over a period (overnight in fact). Thanks everyone for your help and in particular with advising that I cannot presume that a Tightness Test has been carried out as part of the various boiler services.

    Boiler service - what's checked?

Unfortunately that company is not local so I can't use them. I am honestly surprised by all this as leaking pipework could be a hazard in the making, and an expensive repair. I get the impression that the approach is that is you can't smell it you haven't got a leak, which seems quite...

    Boiler service - what's checked?

FiremanT The boiler is a Vaillant Eco 415 with no pilot light.

    Boiler service - what's checked?

Interesting. At least one company lists a system tightness check as part of their boiler service. If I added the hob into the BG contract then would the system be tested? As I understand it a Landlords Safety Check does. The meter is registering approx. 0.0015 m3/hour leakage with all...

    Boiler service - what's checked?

I am preparing a property I have lived in for several years for letting. It is a 1980s build with a modern gas boiler and reasonably recent hob. The boiler is serviced annually by British Gas under a boiler and central heating contract and I have the paperwork for this which gives an OK status...

    UPS2 pump failure

I suspect overheating may just be a possibility. The spec sheet for the rectifier recommends large areas of pcb copper adjacent to each contact to take heat away, but the design I repaired does not have this. The pump failed when it was quite hot after pumping a mixture of hot water and air...

    UPS2 pump failure

Agile (and others) - on investigation it was the bridge rectifier in the power supply that had failed. Have replaced this (pence) and cleaned up the mess from the flashover and all is now well. Also varnished over the area of flashover to prevent a recurrence. Grundfos let me have a...

    UPS2 pump failure

None of this is good news, is it? I have just received an FOC version 3 pump from Grundfos today and hope it will be successful. It seems to have a built in delay between powering on and starting the motor. I presume this is to stop the current surge. Manufacture of v3 started end of June...

    UPS2 pump failure

The short is on the pump side of the filter, that I do know, but I would have to remove components to check further, and as the board is so badly flashed I wouldn't want to repair it and use it again. I believe there has been some redesign of the pump and I hope that it has addressed the issue.

    UPS2 pump failure

Agile - Should have mentioned that I cleaned the pcb up quite a bit after removing it and before photographing. The original flash debris was over a much larger area.

    UPS2 pump failure

Agile - please find attached a photo showing the back of the terminal board and the inside of the housing. I think that what happened is that initially the 5A plug-top fuse blew on switch-on at the start of recommissioning after draining down and refilling (I had the pump directly connected...

    UPS2 pump failure

A Grundfos UPS2 15-50/60 pump has just failed on me whilst I was recommissioning a small micro bore system after cleaning. It blew a 5 amp fuse on start-up and on inspection one of the electronics boards has failed short circuit causing a flashover between the live and neutral terminals...

Siamp problems - no short flush

Thanks for the tip but I have tried adjusting the cursor with no effect. Siamp seem to think it may be broken but there doesn't seem to be much to go wrong. Are they repairable?

Siamp problems - no short flush

I have problems with a Siamp Optima 49. The main flush seems OK and I have set the water level to 6l which I believe is correct these days, but the short flush seems no shorter than the long. The instructions are far from clear about how to set the short flush and I can't work out whether the...

    Eurolock jamming

Thanks for the suggestions. Yesterday I dismantled the lock and found that a U-shaped bit of metal that prevents the lock being pushed back when in the locked position was poorly finished with sharp edges and jamming when the lock was turned to open. A bit of work with a fine file to ease the...

    Eurolock jamming

Thanks for the comment but I just put grease over the 'lever' that sticks out of the barrel. The eurolock seems absolutely fine, it's the interaction of the 'lever' with the sliding bolt mechanism that jams (that's why I can turn the key 200 degrees).

    Eurolock jamming

I have a two year old upvc porch door with a multipoint locking system and a Euro lock. I used not to use the lock as the inner door is very secure but recently I have started using it to prevent access to a storage room when I am away. I find that it locks OK but on three occasions when I...

    Improving a microbore system

Yes, I think it's a Vaillant 415 ecotech. Good boiler, but fussy about flow rate.

    Improving a microbore system

Thanks for the feedback mogget. I asked Spirotech if they knew what pressure drop an MB3 would introduce - but they didn't seem to know!! My boiler also needs a high minimum flow (it's a Vaillant) so your experience is all good news.
