What to expect from getting house wired with cat6

Cheers. Yes am definitely doing a patch panel and had agreed with him I would but wasnt sure if I was letting him off work he should do. I don't expect cables tested for certification just that all cores are connected. I found my punch down tool this evening and ran it over all slots for each...

What to expect from getting house wired with cat6

Ok, point taken, so how do I find someone who can come and ensure all connections are done so that it would meet certification and is this likely to be a costly exercise?

Texecom LCDLP RKP brightness and keytones

Hi, Is there a way to turn down the brightness on one of these keypads? We have one in our bedroom for setting, panic, seeing reason for night time alerts etc but its very bright. I have found some references to an elite RKP on how to do it, but doesnt seem to work. Also I have played with...

What to expect from getting house wired with cat6

So whilst hiring a pro would be a better solution its money I could be spending on more toys. Clearly he needs to check all the faceplates to ensure no loose connections, but should I be insisting that the 40 cables are all left terminated with plugs so that they can be used / tested (even if I...

What to expect from getting house wired with cat6

True but then shouldn't be have tested? I wasn't expecting a fully certified wiring but at least that all connections made tested and working .

What to expect from getting house wired with cat6

Clearly as he hasn't successfully wired in the wall panels he isn't an expert. I have put 3 part cat6 sockets on several and tested all cores are connected and the design of the socket ensures minimal untwisting but how I would I test further ie that I get a gigabit connection? How would I...

Etherley and telephone in same cat 6 patch cable.

I have cat6 cables everywhere to a gigabit switch and use a synology nas to store photos on which means heavy network traffic when on I work them. So yes looks like new cable. of Out interest I have some new WiFi access points which have poe injectors to power them over cat6. They are capable...

What to expect from getting house wired with cat6

As part of a major refurbishment we had the whole house rewired for electrics and cat6/coax in every room. It was based on architects plans 4xcat6 in each room all wired back to utility room as central hub. I got a patch panel for all this to go into the expectation that wiring cables would...

Etherley and telephone in same cat 6 patch cable.

The telephone would be a standard bt socket. I thought even for gigabit there were unused cores for poe use, or does that mean any cat 5e/6 cable I use for poe is limited to 100? This patch cable will be routing the main pc traffic between pc and nas and so not keen to lose the gigabit. Looks...

Etherley and telephone in same cat 6 patch cable.

Hi We just had new carpets laid and I had a cat 6 patch cable run under it to the desk which I have fitted sockets to myself. I am now told we need a wired phone on the desk too. Short of pulling the carpet up again can I run telephone down any of the spare cores? The wall plate that the cat6...

Alarm outputs into home automation systems

John. Sounds like just the thing I want to do. What panel have you got the rm8 connected to and do you need to have one Universal sensor per output? Sounds like it could get expensive that way. Thanks

Alarm outputs into home automation systems

secureiam - zwave is a protocol, not a manufacturer. there are a few that make relays / inputs that take wired input and turn into wireless. I just need to work out if they are compatible with the rm8 output. I think the rm8 only has 4 inputs so I would be limited to that...

Alarm outputs into home automation systems

Cheers. Forgot to mention I have the elite 24 so if I read correctly the rm8 can't plug on to the board as I don't have Dualcom pins. Control 4 is too pricey for me and wanted a z wave rather than x10 for greater flexibility. I do have an 8xp so guessing I could use those into a relay?

Alarm outputs into home automation systems

I am considering getting a z wave how automation hub to do lights, house wide sound and heating for starters and looking at how I could use it with my texecom panel. One option is to use the Fibaro universal sensors in the PIRs, either inside them if room or in the cable junction box most of...

Odd sound alarm. Company says alarm is s**t.

Ditto corrosion of tamper switch. Had it on my old one many years ago. Went off initially after heavy rain so guess water got in then the same sounding sound on and off for weeks. In the end we disconnected and let the battery die. Moved out before I could replace it.

In answer to the last part even the keypad app allows full programming as if you were in front of it, access depending on which user code you enter.
