    Hand Sanding Walls

Would something like this be suitable for sanding between coats of paint on walls? http://www.screwfix.com/prods/36414/Abrasives/Hand-Sanding/Sanding-Blocks-Kits/Mirka-Abranet-Starter-Kit

Thermostatic Bar Mixer shower flow rate

Understood about the excessive water usage. It is an unvented system with a stored water/pump set behind it. My question is that if the input into a thermostatic shower is at 25 lpm (say at 3bar), then is there a restriction usually built into thermostatic bar valves? I'm thinking I might...

Thermostatic Bar Mixer shower flow rate

Is there a flow rate limitation for thermostatic bar mixers to work correctly? We're hoping to put a largish rain shower head to a bar mixer, which requires around 25 litres per minute. Assuming this flow rate can be provided by our system, would a standard thermostatic shower work ok? (not sure...

What duct for MDPE in suspended floor?

Thats quite interesting - I wonder what attraction grey pipe has for them over the blue stuff. I read about an innovative way of protecting the pipe using chicken wire style mesh. MDPE with grey foam insulation, and then chicken wire over the top of that and then using cable ties to keep it...

What duct for MDPE in suspended floor?

We've got a MDPE supply pipe coming into the property, and it is currently insulated with grey foam insulation. Whilst the flooboards are up, I was thinking of putting some ducting around the pipe in case rodents take a liking to it at some point in the future. Is there a special type of duct I...

    Electronic Scale Inhibitors

Was looking at scale inhibitors for the incoming main, and came across these types http://www.screwfix.com/prods/13487/Plumbing/Water-Treatment/Electronic-Scale-Inhibitor http://www.wrappa.co.uk/ Are they any good? I'm not sure I understand how they work exactly, but they seem to have...

    Recessing a shower tray

Actually, the reason I was thinking this is because wetrooms seem quite complicated, and most of the tradesmen that i've asked seem to think it's akin to launching a rocket to the moon, and hence very expensive. Is the fixing and levelling of a wetroom former (taking the advice on board) and...

    Recessing a shower tray

Thanks - is that something that a DIY'er could undertake? (assuming their not totally incompetent!)

    Recessing a shower tray

Are there any issues with recessing a stone resin shower tray so it sits on joists rather than plywood? The idea is to create support for the tray using noggins between the joists, and allowing the tray to look more recessed with the plywood and tiles around it. Any potential problems with...

    In-line scale inhibitor

Are there any recommendations for an in-line scale inhibitor we can put on the incoming domestic main for the whole house? Water is reasonably hard in our area, and we'd like to put a whole house solution in place for this if possible. Ideally something that enables safe drinking water and...

    Cold Rads

Have a problem I was hoping for some advice on. I have added another radiator to an open vent system, and finding that I can't get them to all heat up at the same time, even after balanching them. Turning any one of the larger radiators off makes the rest of them hot, but can't seem to work out...

    Problems with new plaster

Ah, thanks for that. Would it be ok to start decorating over? I want to put the mist coat up, so can I do this after brushing the stuff off? Anything specific I should look out for? cheers

    Problems with new plaster

We have recently had some plastering done and have a weird problem around where the angle beads are. There is a white fuzz like substance on them - something like dry snow that crumbles when you touch it. This is occuring on corners of walls of rooms that are quite cold and only seems to happen...

    Dulux Paints

We're looking to get our house painted and our decorator has recommended dulux vinyl matt and vinyl silk for the house above other brands. He says they are better than the DIY stores / leylands etc, and worth the extra cost. Is this true? Are there any better options to Dulux in a similar or...

Cost of fitting Laminate \ Real wood Floor

Steve, I'm with you on this one - laying the modern 'click' laminate is a lot easier than putting a wood floor down, but a lot of tradesman don't seem to take that into account when quoting for laminate installation. I'll probably get flamed for this, but I can't see the installation in a...

Filler / Caulk for Oak skirting

I would like some advice on the best way to fill gaps in the top of skirting we'll be fitting soon. The skirting will be Oak, and we will be staining/varnishing it to match a dark wood laminate we'll be installing. We were thinking of using the following (from recommendations on other posts...

    help on choosing alarm system

Do you get installation manuals with these alarms? I tried getting the manaul from the texe.com site but it says I have to be a registered installer. I presume it is ok to DIY fit them? (not taking part in any insurance approved schemes of course due to DIY) Also, what is the difference...

    When to Fill ?

Isn't that a bit of a no-no? I thought the 'mist-coat' had to be matt emulsion with a 5 to 1 (paint to water) ratio? This is so the plaster can soak up the paint rather than seal the plaster which oil based paints will do.

Install skirting before floor or afterward?

I have seen installations where the floor isn't totally straight, and these leaves gap under the skirting.
