We have recently had some plastering done and have a weird problem around where the angle beads are. There is a white fuzz like substance on them - something like dry snow that crumbles when you touch it. This is occuring on corners of walls of rooms that are quite cold and only seems to happen over the angle bead areas.

Has anyone seen anything similar happen with plaster drying in colder conditions? the rooms that dont have external walls don't seem to face this problem so it's quite strange

Efflorescence:

is a white fluffy surface deposit that is caused by salts in the plaster being drawn to the surface. The moisture evaporates and the efflorescence appears. Dry brushing will remove it. (Do not wash with water, as this will aggravate the problem).

quite harmless.

Ah, thanks for that.

Would it be ok to start decorating over? I want to put the mist coat up, so can I do this after brushing the stuff off? Anything specific I should look out for?

cheers
