    Accumulator or Break Tank

You know a lot more than I do (and I appreciate the responses) but i'm confused at your responses. How could it be suggested that my 2 bar pressure is sufficient, if we don't know the pipe sizes, and hence can't calculate the flowrate I should be getting if there were no pipework restrictions...

    Accumulator or Break Tank

If it is a pipe restriction and it is fixed, what kind of flow rate can I expect through a standard lead pipe at 2 bar?

    Accumulator or Break Tank

Hi, I am looking to boost the water flow rate from mains into an unvented cylinder, and wanted some advice on whether to go for an accumulator or a break tank/pump set in a new installation. I have been reading some old threads about this, but they have confused me even more. My water flow...

Where did you hear about cctvdirect? I can't find any mention of it anywhere apart from on this site.

    CCTV system recommendation

Are you affiliated with the company at all? I looked at your previous posts and most of them are recommending cctvdirect. Also, I did a google search and couldn't really find them recommended on any other forum. I'm sure they are legit and you probably aren't affiliated with them, but i'd...

    CCTV system recommendation

Hello, I would like some recommendations for a CCTV system for a domestic property please. Looking for a DVR system with 3-4 cameras, mainly to keep an eye on the property whilst we are out. Cameras will cover the garage, front driveway, garden, and front door, and I will fit myself...

Beam and Block Floor vs Wooden Joists

Are there many different installation methods for beam and block flooring? Appreciate any tips for installing this type of floor. I've been in a newly built house with these type of floors and it felt rock solid - even on the upper floors. I presume it's long spans that can make these floors...

Chimney Breast Removal - Y Shaped

Has anyone any experience of removing chimney breasts with the chimney configuration shown below on a detached house? If we wanted to remove the chimney up till the 1st floor but keep the stack as it is, then where would the supports go? Inverted Y shaped chimney has standard chimney...

    Fitting A Composite Door

Hello, What is involved in fitting a composite door to an existing / new frame? I'm thinking it might be similar to fitting a PVC frame where the frame is screwed in and gaps filled with expanding foam / frame sealant. Any tips / experiences in fitting composite doors welcome!

Sloping Slate Roof Extenion - Advice please

Hi Guys, Any ideas of how this type of roof is constructed on an extension? We're looking for ideas for our extension and really like the look of the sloping roof, with windows and slate tiles. has anyone built anything similar?

Beam and Block Floor vs Wooden Joists

We can, but the floor will be about 70cm off the ground as the house floor level is higher. Looks like it might be the only way though as we want a fairly rigid floor with minimal bounce. The old extension will have to be demolished. Could we use the remains of that to build the ground up?

    Cutting Clay Soil Pipe.

I've used a special soil pipe cutter before. You can get it from hire shops and it comprises of a 'chain' which tightens around the pipe and cuts it slowly from the outside - like a copper pipe cutter but on a bigger scale.

Beam and Block Floor vs Wooden Joists

Hey Guys, We're considering installing beam and block in our new extension instead of wooden joists - to give a less bouncy floor than joists, and to get a more rigid structure. Are there opinions on here what beam and block is like to install/live with, and costs compared to wood? Any...

Plastering internal walls - non cavity wall detached house

I didn't realise about notifying building regs. We're getting other work done anyway that needs notifying so this should be no problem. So you'd go for insulation + plasterboard over rendering? I've heard this causes issues when fixing things onto the wall and assumed that rendering is always...

Plastering internal walls - non cavity wall detached house

What are the best options to use for plastering internal walls of solid brick (non cavity) walls in a detached house. We're in the process of buying such a house and the surveyors reports says that the whole house should be replastered. We'd ideally like to use sand/cement render or bonding...

    Creating Basement below new Extension

Thanks for the replies. I will definately be using a structural engineer to design/calculate the structure, and will be getting planning permission and complying with building regs etc. Party wall act is something I need to look into as well. What I was really hoping for are some opinions on...

    Creating Basement below new Extension

I am looking to build a rear extension to my house, and was thinking about the feasibility of creating a basement under the new extension. The new extension's floor would be about 1m off the ground (to be in line with the existing house floor) and i'd probably need about another 2m dug down for...

Advice for building blockwork garden shed

I've done a search but not sure it answers my questions. I'm building a single skin garden shed that will be used as a storage room, and I wanted to find out the correct blocks to use for this - are concrete blocks ok for this purpose or should I be using another kind (thermalite?). I've...
