We can, but the floor will be about 70cm off the ground as the house floor level is higher. Looks like it might be the only way though as we want a fairly rigid floor with minimal bounce. The old extension will have to be demolished. Could we use the remains of that to build the ground up?

I've used a special soil pipe cutter before. You can get it from hire shops and it comprises of a 'chain' which tightens around the pipe and cuts it slowly from the outside - like a copper pipe cutter but on a bigger scale.
