    Hot water takes ages

Get a pumped secondary return put onto your hot water leg. This will comprise of a length of 15mm pipe usually connected near your furthest tap with a WRAS approved pump and a thermostat/programmer combination to time the secondary return. This way you can reduce the hot water time in the...

    What grade Sandpaper?

Hi Guys, I'm going to be redecorating some rooms, in which the walls have been painted over the years. I will be sanding the walls down to remove some of the layers of paint, and will be filling in any imperfections with fine filler, and sanding over again. My questions are: a) What grade...

    Cutting Plastic Soil Pipe

Whats the best way to cut into Plastic Soil Pipe? I will be doing this at some height (on a ladder), and need a method that can give me a nice clean cut. Also, what do you use to create the chamfer at the end of the pipe?

    Boiler Installation Dilemma

When I first moved into my property a few years ago, I had a new boiler installed as the old one was knackered and practically on it's way out. I didn't know better in those days and I ended up hiring a Plumber who had been recommended to me by a friend, but who was not Corgi Registered. The...

    Cutting into Soil Stack

I think I get the idea now. The slip coupling can be slid all the way onto one end of the pipe, so that when the pipe is put back in place, the coupling can slide up and cover the small gap. Do you know where I can get a slip coupling from?

    Cutting into Soil Stack

Which method is the least disruptive to the existing stack? Cutting the stack is fine, but will it have to be lifted to put the new couplings in? My fear is we'll have to dismantle the whole stack from the new tee upwards..

    Cutting into Soil Stack

We have a plastic grey Soil Stack which needs to be 'cut into' to add a T for another bathroom that is being created. Is the only solution removing the whole stack (3 stories up) and rebuilding it again, or are there special fitments available for this purpose? Rough Diagram:

    Overflow Pipe in Water Cistern

The Overflow Pipe in our Cold Water Cistern (in the loft) is continuously leaking. Do you suggest completely replacing the ballvalve assembly, or is there a quicker fix I can do? Sorry i'm not specific enough, but it's a 50 Galllon Round tank and I haven't had a look inside yet.

Is it possible to fit a pump to the HW supply?

Do you have a HW cylinder (in the airing cupboard usually), or does your Hot Water come from a Combi Boiler? If it's a cylinder, yes you can fit a pump, if it's a Combi Boiler, then no you can't.

    Wouldn't this be cool...?

I presume you use Linux as an OS for this system? How stable do you find it, and have you measured how much power the PC uses being on all the time? I'd be interested in setting up something like this

    How Long For Hot Water?

Could a secondary return be used in this instance to keep the water in the pipes hot (at certain times)? I'm not sure if doing this with a combi would be much different than with an unvented cylinder.

    Plastic Pipe

I don't think the cost of 22mm Plastic Pipe is that much greater than equivalent copper - in fact, the actual pipe is cheaper, although the fittings are not. Barrier pipe shouldn't be used for this application then? I thought any extra protection offered in plastic pipework was better...

    Plastic Pipe

Hi Guys, What are your thoughts on using Plastic Pipe, such as Hep2o Barrier, for mains water connection from internal stoptap to Unvented Cylinder? The run this pipe has to take would be quite difficult with copper, and might require more bends/elbows than plastic. Using Plastic would...
