Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

Plumbing is great, no sign of any problems except it fills rather slowly (and slight leak from top of the header feed - oops). Header tank gets slightly warm, wouldn't even call it lukewarm - I presume from cold water sinking and hot water rising (mostly prevented by the u-bend). As to...

Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

Nearly done now! Most parts soldered together, just the compression fittings left for fine tuning. (Oops, the pump is the wrong way around) If anyone notices a major problem let me know because I'm testing it tomorrow. Hot water from top of boiler -> expansion pipe -> curved refill pipe - >...

Shortest conversion 1.5" bsp to 22mm

It is quite a bit shorter, gives me extra breathing space, however I got it wrong - it is 1.25" not 1.5". I don't know how I managed that. Doh!

Shortest conversion 1.5" bsp to 22mm

It's an old oil boiler, this is the 1.5" to 22mm currently on it and I want a bit more space. I've re-purposed the boiler to be a pool heater and the heat exchanger only has 22mm connections (so do most pumps). At some point I'm going to have to reduce to 22mm so doing it at the boiler makes...

Shortest conversion 1.5" bsp to 22mm

I have a 1.5" female BSP connection on the boiler which I want to connect a 22mm pipe to. What is the shortest way of doing this? RS have nearly what I want but only up to 1" https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/brass-copper-compression-fittings/4320342/

Header tank feed - on flow or return?

Thanks, I had a feeling one was the old style of doing things.

Header tank feed - on flow or return?

I'm trying to confirm where the feed from the header tank should be. It seems unanimous that the 'escape pipe' for air should be close to the output from the boiler. It is about 50/50 whether the cold feed/expansion goes just after this and before the pump or somewhere on the return, i.e. just...

Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

Here is the updated drawing with all the input so far and a slight change removing the Thermal Mixer Valve (Boiler Protection) which are expensive! I've left the Valve which was to regulate pressure to adjust flow to compensate for slight errors in my calculations (just in case return is...

Many apologies, I thought you were way off as I bought all the parts at random but it turns out you are right ... :) Heat Exchanger Spec 31 Gph Pool 11 Gph Feed 130,000 BTU 82'C Input 71'C Return (calculated) My system 36.5 Gph Pool MAX 12.5 Gph Feed MAX 135,000 BTU boiler output (or can be...

Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

I had no idea there was such a thing as anti-freeze for central heating, I was going to use automotive. That will save me a lot of research so I'll change my plans accordingly! :) Thanks!

Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

The heater is outside so I will have to have some kind of anti-freeze in the water which means it has to be contained and can't be put down the drain. When I drain it I will manually pump it from the bottom of the heat exchanger back into the header tank which won't have a cistern but will be...

Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

Super idea, didn't think of that at all but now you mention it I do need a valve to close off the header tank. Oops! I'd love to double thank this! Bleeding back into the header will ensure no air is ever in the system. Less than 150mm before the pump is the kind of info that you don't know...

Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

It's diy, nothing is matched to anything, it's all based on availability of 2nd hand parts. As it happens, the heat exchanger is about right, however the flow rates through it for the pool and heating will not be correct as these depend on pumps I already have and my pool will be hotter than a...

Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

Sorry, jumped in without background. Continuing this thread about boiler return feeds. https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/can-someone-explain-return-temps-to-me.500169/#post-4132331 The pool will take all the heat from the feed and the return temp will be much to low causing condensation and...

Plumbing diagram for Oil fired Pool Heater.

I'm installing an old oil fired boiler to heat the kids' pool. This is my starting diagram and I'd like a bit of input please. I've not done this before and some things are counter-intuitive so I'm checking. It is outside (in a shed) so I'll have to have anti-freeze of some kind in the system...

Building a small shed - with bricks on edge.

The thing I was most concerned with is rain affecting the flat face of the brick because the edge is designed for it. Not sure if it will soak in more than usual and crumble in winter.

Building a small shed - with bricks on edge.

Thanks, I hadn't considered the brick with holes. Space is limited and bricks/slabs were reclaimed a couple of years ago so materials are free if I use what I have.
