    Advice On Soldering Technique

Thanks, a few different methods to try to see what works best for me. Are you all (or most) agreed that Laco flux is the way forward?

    Advice On Soldering Technique

Fry flux in a yellow jar. I usually brush a light smear on. Should I be putting lots on?

    Advice On Soldering Technique

So , you're saying flame onto the pipe near its branch then onto the branch of the tee, add solder, then flame onto the second pipe - move to second pipe's branch add solder, then the same with the third?

    Advice On Soldering Technique

Have had a few leak, because the solder hasn't penetrated properly. Sometimes it takes ages, and I can't seem to get solder into the fitting. Do larger fittings take a while before solder starts to flow? I don't think my technique with tees is right, wanted to know how the pros do them.

    Advice On Soldering Technique

When I try to solder small end feed elbows, connectors, etc I don't have too many problems. When I try to solder bigger fittings, especially 22mm tees it seems to go pear-shaped. Which of these two techniques is correct; 1) point the flame onto one branch of the tee until the...

Fitting TRV To Towel Rad Question

I'm fitting a new bathroom chrome ladder towel rail. I'm using straight TRVs, so that the pipes go down to the skirting vertically. When I fit the TRV, is it best to have the TRV head under the rad, or sticking out to the side? Which way is best to make the trv work properly?

Can I Use System Cleaner/Sludge Remover With Microbore

System = Open vented, microbore, Ideal Icos boiler, 5 rads) Can I use Sentinel X400 Sludge Remover or Fernox equivalent in my microbore system? If yes, how long do I need to leave it in the system with the heating on, before draining it out? Many thanks.

Is the Worcester Bosch 28i Junior any good/

My son has a small 2 bed flat. The combi is shot, and we need something with small external dimensions to fit the small kitchen. The DHW output seems OK for him. Are these boilers recommended, or does something better fit the bill? Size (small) is important here!

No Filling Loop On My Glow Worm 30cxi

I have looked under the boiler - no loop. The boiler is very close to the loft floor, so there wouldn't really be room on the short lengths of pipe anyway.

No Filling Loop On My Glow Worm 30cxi

The Glow worm combi was fitted before I moved into my house. Its in the loft. I need to move a rad pipe that will mean draining the system. Last time I looked in the loft, I couldn't find a filling loop anywhere. Do I refill with the small plastic detachable knob that adds water to the...

Will A Differential Bypass Valve Stop My TRVs Hissing?

Thanks again for the replies. BENGASMAN - If I were to try opening both the valves fully on the hall rad (no TRVs fitted on this one), would this give me the same problems with the boiler that you described as fitting an external bypass?

Will A Differential Bypass Valve Stop My TRVs Hissing?

Thanks for the replies. DOITALL - Will have a play with the hall rad valves. Its not microbore, however it is a reasonably powerful boiler (I think!) with only 6 smallish rads. How do I turn the pump down on a 30cxi? RAYDAR - Seems like the extra rad/plinth heater without TRVs did the...

Will A Differential Bypass Valve Stop My TRVs Hissing?

SYSTEM = Glow Worm 30 cxi combi & 6 rads. The TRVs in the house that we have recently moved in hiss loudly at various settings. We have resorted to turning all TRVs to max (which obviously defeats the object of having them), but some still hiss, especially when the heating has been on a...
