    Mouldy battens

Hi ken, Yes I just asked for battens. Not coloured but think the bloke in yard aged if I wanted blue or green.i can't tell if they are green but maybe he meant green as in untreated? I'll spray the ones that are mouldy. They have been laying on the flat roof below for a week or so.

    Mouldy battens

Some of the new battens have got black mould on them. I thought they should be treated to prevent that. Will they be ok behind the tiles once dry or should I remove them or spray with 5star fungicide? I don't want to cover over if going to be a problem in future. Thanks

    Tilting batten going up verge

Hi, I'm wondering how I fit a tilting batten or something similar that will kick out the eaves/lowest tile on every row of a dormer cheek going up the pitched roof. If I simply screw a 50mm batten below the horizontal at the same pitch of roof then won't it obstruct the tile further up. Is...

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

In an attempt to clarify, I've drawn some pictures of what I think I have and where I'm unsure of the cutting and joining of rubber plus position of lead saddle. Thanks

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

Should the rubber that comes onto the pitched roof be covered by the last tile or top/eaves tile to prevent water getting under. There isn't going to be room for a top/eaves tile on the flat roof part as it is up quite high.

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

I prefer the sound of your first option of lead over soakers but as the distance of overhang from the cheek sheathing to the fascia is 150mm I assume I would need to bring the lead between the top of the actual flat roof ply and the added fascia top ply. So the lead would come up through a thin...

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

Thanks but its done already from 3x2 the bits you saw in the other picture was to bring it in to nearer the ridge. Looks worse than it is... Can you offer any advice on where to flash or cut rubber? Thanks

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

Im further on now and wondering where the lead should go. Is there any chance of water getting under the lead or between the lead and the EPDM? Was thinking lead type saddle behind fascia and on top of full tile and then stick epdm to lead... Thanks

Tiling didnt go to plan. what can i do to rectify

@palaceray. Its a slither short so do you mean cutting a few inches off other tiles to bring it back half a full tile width? Where is this best to do to notice less? Assume.a.bad idea to cut fown corner tiles?. Thanks

Tiling didnt go to plan. what can i do to rectify

Hi, i assume I'll need to cit the same on every row to keep the bond? @noseall , Yes i appreciated i already have new corner tiles in that colour but they are less noticeable than the larger tile and half. And cost more too.... How far back should the lead go in under the window?

Tiling didnt go to plan. what can i do to rectify

The window inserted is from a skip but gives some temporary protection. Actual frame is abou 15mm wider than the white window you can see.

Tiling didnt go to plan. what can i do to rectify

Hi. I have now started to tile the dormer . I thought I had calculated window positions correctly to correspond with the plain tile edges but with the additional counter battens requested by Building control it now requires a slither of a tile :-( Windows are ordered already so cant change the...

Concrete floor with bitumen paint - more bitumen or seal ?

Hi, There is no membrane beneath your floor or any others of this period. The damp course will exist in the walls only. The marley tiles and bitumen acted as a dpm of sorts. Pity you took the screed off as, like me, you have an inch to build back up. Look at my posts and you may see images of...

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

Thanks. The replacment of gable cavity wall will hopefully be done today and the batten will go in the top, flush with the cavity wall top, but i may also fix ply to that like you said . The batten will be strapped underneath and on to the bricks in a few places also. If you get any more...

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

Thanks. Mine is a flat roof dormer but maybe that makes no difference. I may be struggling because I'm dumb but i think also as i have no tiles above dormer and a large sofit depth of 6 inches. I took some pictures and will attach so its a better view of what it looks like currently. The...

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

Thanks datarebel, although I am not completely clear. Today I removed the bedded verge tiles and hope that I can re do this with soakers when I get to that bit. Because the new dormer cheek took out the gable side furthest rafter from the old pitched roof - (instead of doubling up the rafter I...
