    Thistle Board Finish...

Thanks for that Richard, this past 12 months has been a learning curve, but learning all the time. When I did my intensive course we only used multi finish on boards. The only time so far I have skimmed over boards was on a ceiling earlier this year, but if multi gives me more time, then muti it...

    Thistle Board Finish...

A colleague at work has asked me to plaster his new boards some time possibly soon. I've been looking at Thistles Board Finish description, and says it is 'an ideal final coat plaster' Should there be an undercoat plaster first then board finish, OR just a couple of coats of Board Finish? Thanks.

    Damp re-appearing

Have been doing some reskimming in a colleagues house she has is now doing up. Old terrace, bay window. On one of the lower bay walls was a damp area, just over a foot square, maybe more. I did take it back to brickwork and used hardwall prior to multi. That was a few months back. Apparently the...

    Ceiling skim...

Have been asked to skim over a small artexed ceiling. Yes I will PVA then a bond coat first. How soon after the bonding coat can I multi-skim over. Also should I be using one or two coats of bonding.(A fairly deep pattern) Just one other thing I have some unopened plaster which is a few weeks...

    Easi-fill or plaster

Outside wall, so brick/breeze block. The crack hasn't opened up, but I would like to sort it out once and for all.

    Easi-fill or plaster

At the top of our stairs we have a ceiling to skirting crack, has been there for many years (settlement) Has been re-filled over the years. Now needs doing again. It's not just a 'hairline' crack, is looking quite bad. Should I take it back a fair way and re-fill/skim with multicoat. The walls...

    Artex or multi-finish?

Thanks for all that guys, and no I won't be using artex. I'll stick to a good flat ceiling with plaster!! After a bonding coat of course!

    Artex or multi-finish?

Thanks for that. Yes, when I said successfully obliterate I did mean using artex, over the old. I take it you dont have to use a stipple or other finish, can it not just be flattened out with a trowel just like when plastering for a flat finish?

    Artex or multi-finish?

Sorry guys,as a beginner I know we can plaster ceilings (I have done), but why are we not using artex. I have never done this. Can you successfully obliterate the old artex, is it put on the same way? ie use a PVA coat first?

    Used Bonding coat?

Sorry for the late post!! Thanks for that RC, I did only gradually fill the chase, maybe I was rushing it and filling it too quickly though....On a slightly different note, one of the walls was quite large, so I experimented by dividing the wall with a stop bead, must say it worked pretty well...

    Used Bonding coat?

Thanks guys, yes I did PVA first, unless the PVA was too weak a mix! But the chases were very deep as well as quite wide. As TM says I could've used hardwall. I'll try that next time....still learning :)

    Used Bonding coat?

Whilst on a job today, I followed a sparky colleague who recently left me a couple of 'back to brickwork'/wide chases. I used Bonding on these, which also cracked on drying, I guess because of the amount of bonding used. Did I do right using bonding?

    Plastic corner beads??

It's just that I see plastic ones lined up with the galvanised and just wondered if anybody uses these. Somebody told me today that there is a 'rolled-up' type, sort of like a cardboard, but have'nt seen it??

    Plastic corner beads??

Following on from my earlier post re attaching corner beads(metal), does anybody use the plastic type, are there any pro's & cons? Thanks again for all your earlier replies.

    Attaching corner beads

On a job today where I attached a couple of corner beads, both were reasonably long and fighting aginst gravity, I think the plaster held them ok (I hope so!), if i were to 'nail' them on, what type of nail would I need, into old plaster work?

    Bathroom Ceiling Advice

Is the general rule of thumb to initially use a 'Bonding' coat prior to 2 multi-finish coats on artex ceilings? Or only use a Bonding coat if the artex pattern is quite 'raised'

    Spot board Trestle

Not really a technical question. Up to now have been working 'out the bucket', but would like to purchase a trestle. Have been looking on line and seem to range from about £30 upwards. Can Anybody reccommend any companies, or know of a cheaper deal. Cheers.
