    light staying on

We havent put any pins or nails in the wall. ( We do have decorations just hanging off curtain rails or picture frames so we dont leave holes in the walls!) Its a wall light and it was switched off. Nothing has changed with it or the house electrics since about 2001 ! We use it more now so...

    light staying on

I went upstairs and found a bedroom light had come on all by itself! ( I had used the light in the morning but it wasnt on when I went in the room an hour earlier) When I turn it off and on it just dims slightly in the off position but stays on. I have checked the wires in the switch and the...

    Protecting against floods

we have concrete floors. ideally we need things cheap (doesnt everyone!) and not take up much room. I have seen 'sand'bags that are flat until water absorbed. anyone have any experience of these. You would think flood agency would be more helpful but could find any info on there and the...

    Protecting against floods

We live near two rivers, and since 1960's the flood defences have provide protection....however..... a few years ago the water did get uncomfortably high and this year the rivers authorities have done some dubious work so we now feel it is time to think about protecting ourselves from potential...

where do I go for help? (Neighbour/Tree dispute)

She came around again a few weeks later and I told her not to speak to us again, if she had anything to say she should put it in writing. i then told her i was going to close the door and I did. i thought if she comes again then I will pursue harassment as the stress she causes me (mainly due...

That looks good. I'm not sure how thick the stuff we have in other rooms is but is alot cheaper than buying it from the carpet shop! We were charged £200 for 15 sqaure metres! Shame the carpet isn't on the net too!

    Which carpet underlay?

I have seen a few types of underlay when looking for a bargain on the internet. We normally just have the rubbery one and didn't know there were so many types! I have seen wool felt and felt with rubber. Are these any better than my normal underlay!!?? (they are both a really good price on ebay...

    Insulating a sloped roof/ wall

One wall in one of the bedrooms is formed by the sloping roof. This has no insulation in it so makes the room red hot or freezing cold. Is there any way to insulate it without removing the plasterboard? (I was think of something like they do for cavity wall insulation?)

where do I go for help? (Neighbour/Tree dispute)

I'm trying to find out how tall siver birch and cherry blossom trees grow and how long it takes to get to their full potential. I am sure they haven't grown that much in the last 8 years that we have lived here. they have been in many years before this. i am not having much look finding this...

where do I go for help? (Neighbour/Tree dispute)

That's what we are going to do. (Mind you, she is not old. She is younger than us but I think she is 'daddies princess' who stamps her feet and gets her own way.) we tried to be polite but there is just no reasoning with some people so we are just going to stop them before they get chance speak...

where do I go for help? (Neighbour/Tree dispute)

This is what I think. I never argue a point without having the facts first. The first time she moaned about the trees a few years ago I went on the internet and printed off all the rules etc so I knew what I was talking about. i have since spoke to the council and our other neighbors and feel...

where do I go for help? (Neighbour/Tree dispute)

I have said we will not discuss it anymore and, if she wants to say anything to put it in writing. We said the same things as we have said before eg, they have light most the day, the trees are 40 ft from their about boundary, they are on a very long list of things to do but it is not priority...

where do I go for help? (Neighbour/Tree dispute)

This was the local councils reply to my email to them: Thank you for your email received 17th July 2008. Under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 the definition of a “high hedge” means ‘so much of a barrier to light or access as: is formed wholly or predominantly by a line of two or more...

    garden bench wax

My parents have had the same wild goose chase with B&Q who finally said they wouldn't be stocking it. i think everyone should write and complain to B&Q for selling an item that you cant buy the care stuff for in their shop.

    Whats the price of land??

I will tell you the story from the beginning...are you sitting comfortably..... then I will begin: Our houses were built in 1959 and there was a field behind it. Around this the council wanted to use it for various things but the householders contested and 5 of the 6 residents clubbed together...
