Levelling/ sealing concrete floor for tiling

Cheers matt - youre a legend. Have laid the 900 - great fun! will wait 24 hrs (or do I need more time since I laid approx 6mm thick?) before applying dpm. Got alot of pinholes in the 900 - presumably these will just be filled with the dpm liquid as I apply it? My fault for not getting a...

    Part number for heat exchanger

Hey - thans, you mean on the inside of the plastic control panel? THere is a bar code printed on the side of the left panel too. Once I know the GC number, how do I work out if its the 23 or 28kw version? I suspect its the 23 as the bloke who owned the house before me was a tight *******.

    circuit breakers for boiler circuit

Ive just discovered that my boiler, which is supplied by a separate circuit, seems to have two circuit breakers on the consumer unit - is there a reason why this would have been done? I cant work it out myself. One is a standard circuit breaker, the other is an RCD one (if thats what you call...

    Gas point for cooker

Im doing my kitchen at the moment, and the cooker is going to be moving about 20cm to the left, away from the existing bayonet fitting for the gas. This will mean the gas pipe in its current location will be within a new base cabinet. Do I need to have the gas pipe moved, or can I just leave...

Cutting chases in wall - best way?

Ive got an elecrician coming on Monday, and I need to cut chases in my kitchen wall before he arrives - Ive started off with an angle grinder, and then using a cold chisel to knock plaster out. Is this the best way of doing it? Its taking bloody ages! Also - when I knock out the plaster for...

old load bearing wall removal - was it done right?

BTW - is it pretty common practise to leave the wall foundations in place ina modification such as this? I'd have thought it was more sensible to remove it completely, if its not offering any lateral support. THe guys who did these modifications were (to my knowledge) total idiots btw.

old load bearing wall removal - was it done right?

Thanks for the info - 99% sure there is an RSJ, its in a bloody big box running across the ceiling. Pretty sure there is no insulation in the new bit of floor, but its only about 2 sq metres, and the rest of the room has the original concrete floor which is about 100 years old. THe floor...

old load bearing wall removal - was it done right?

Hi, My kitchen previously had a load bearing wall across one end of it, which separated the old kitchen from the outside toilet/ coal hole. This was removed about 7 years ago by the previoys owner. Whilst ripping out the old floor in there the last few days, I have noticed that there is a...

Levelling/ sealing concrete floor for tiling

Thanks - This may sound like an incredibly thick question, but when mixing the compound, I should mix all 3 bottles of 900 liquid with all 3 bags of 900 powder at the same time right? And then shoull I just pour the whole lot onto the floor in one go before troweling? Thanks

Levelling/ sealing concrete floor for tiling

Thanks for your advice Matt Got all my materials now for this job and just about ready to get on with it - but after removing all old floor tiles Im beginning to suspect that the floor has a slight slope to it. This isnt something Id anticipated. I bought two bags of Stopgap 900 for the...

    Part number for heat exchanger

thank you for that enlightening response! I suppose I should have asked the question: "How do I tell if my boiler is the 23 or 28kw version" I cant see any indication of which it is. What is the GC number?

Levelling/ sealing concrete floor for tiling

Cheers, I'll give them a ring on Monday. How about using a diamond cup disc on an angle grinder to get rid of the crap? Its fairly loose in places anyway, and its only an area of about 4 square metres.

Levelling/ sealing concrete floor for tiling

Sorry for the multiple posts to my own question. Shot blasting machines appear to cost a fortune to hire and are bloody huge to boot.....any alternatives - aside from alot of manual labour that is?

Cooker hood ducting - up an old chimney?

Just read somewhere else that doing this would not be a good idea. However, comments on my alternative would be welcomed: I have an RSJ running the width of my kitchen from the extrnal wall to a party wall. The cooker hood will be installed on the party wall, so a duct needs to get from...
