Swapping Dimmer Switches - not working, help needed.

Hi all, I consider myself being just about capable of doing no more than swapping sockets and switches (like-for-like) when it comes to DIY electric work around the house and no more as I respect the trade and don't want to be blown up! However, I need to swap a dimmer switch (currently this...

Worcester Greenstar Boiler - Hot Shower Water Issue

Thanks chaps! Ok, so update since your last messages but I’m posting this as I’m taking your feedback more seriously this this persons to be honest but worth your input for sure. So, I asked him if he noticed a blender valve under the floor whilst he laid down the new pipe work (all walls and...

Worcester Greenstar Boiler - Hot Shower Water Issue

Thanks chaps, the most sense anyone has made in this whole disaster situation. I know you’ll have zero idea to guess the answer to this BUT, surely this valve would be exposed somewhere for easy access / maintenance? The bathroom fitter would’ve seen it in the walls / floor when he ripped...

Worcester Greenstar Boiler - Hot Shower Water Issue

I know, the engineer et Mira wasn’t proving helpful with me! I’ve just spoken to the bathroom fitter who says there’s 100% no chance of cold / hot crossover contamination from his new pipework. Although, it would explain it and the cold tap in the bathroom sometimes initially feels warm when...

Worcester Greenstar Boiler - Hot Shower Water Issue

No it wasn’t actually, the device the Mira rendition had seem to wrap around the copper pipe to record the temperature on the device from the looks of it! That’s good that you think that - so it appears that it could be an issue with the boiler not sending out hot enough water then you think...

Worcester Greenstar Boiler - Hot Shower Water Issue

Hi all, We’ve just had a new Mira Plarinum Dual Digital shower installed in the loft, feeding down to the bathroom upstairs which is great. However, it has an error saying that the incoming hot water temperature is too low. I’ve checked our Boiler (Worcester Greenstar 30i) and its set at 60...

Changing over from a Nest Thermostat

Thanks so much for that, really useful of you! 1) Does it matter which one of the two 1 and 3 wires go in which slot colour wise? 2) In the back of the new wired Boss unit, there 5 sliders all turned to on currently, do you know if I need to slide any of these to be off / on too? Pic here:

Changing over from a Nest Thermostat

Hi everyone, We currently have a Valliant EcoTech boiler with a Nest Thermostat wired up to it. It's been great but we're moving home and plan to take the Nest unit with us. So that I'm not leaving the new buyer with nothing, I'm wiring up an older 'Boss 20810168 RF RX' thermostat in its...

Tradesman has cracked a roof tile around skylight

Thanks for your replies everyone. The screw head in question (it has no thread or body) pinged off the gutter where the bracket was out of view at the top of houses’ main roof (which is why the guy was up there repairing it in the first place!) Just out of interest chaps, why do you think the...

Tradesman has cracked a roof tile around skylight

Hi all, Just had a chap who’s repaired some guttering above our kitchen extension which has a Velux skylight window in. He’s obviously stepped on a weak part on that corner. I’m terrified now in case we start to get a leak. Do any professional roofers think the likelihood of a leak forming if...

Has my plumber maybe messed up? New Rad install...

He did in the end, he must've had a brain freeze moment before he was about the drain the whole system again!

Has my plumber maybe messed up? New Rad install...

Thanks all, problem fixed. It was the smallest issue of the other side of the pipe (out pipe, excuse my lack of knowledge) needed the Alan key twisting so the flow could exit. How annoying!!!

Has my plumber maybe messed up? New Rad install...

Thanks for your reply :) Plumber is back and said he's done all that and certain the valves are on the right way (and he said the valves we both flow-ways compatible anyway). Is it a possibility that the boiler isn't powerful enough to heat the tall radiator on the ground floor, with the boiler...

Has my plumber maybe messed up? New Rad install...

Hey all, Ok so we have a Vokera Compact A 25kw boiler and 5 radiators (plus two towel rails) in the 3 bed house we’ve bought. We wanted to change one of the downstairs rads to be one of these designer tall radiators. Plumber has installed it and then when we’ve turned the heating on, all...

    Re-appearing movement crack in wall

Hi All, I've had a long-standing battle with a particular crack on an internal wall that keeps shifting. No matter how I fill, sometimes the cracks opens and sometimes it moves the other way and 'pushes' the filler out the crack upwards a little to create a raised crack. The wall has been...

    Replacing a fused switch socket

Hi all, I want to replace the light switch which is solely used for the outside flood/security light. Bought a fused switch which is marked as 13 amp. However, checked the fuse inside the current white socket which turns out to be 3 amp. Do I have to buy a specific 3 amp fuse socket or can I...
