    Glue for Vinyl Flooring

Hi all, is there a glue that will stick two pieces of vinyl floor tile together. Reason for the question is, I have an uneven transition between a kitchen and a conservatory, instead of overlaying with a threshold strip I wondered if I could glue two pieces of vinyl together (think of an L shape...

Old Downpipes and Hoppers (Sandblast them?)

Hi Ken, that's a very valid point, they do have other hoppers that are not easy to access so they have copies to hand so to speak. The location is away from any public roads and is very isolated so it cannot be seen and security is very high. I think I will mention this point to them and at...

Old Downpipes and Hoppers (Sandblast them?)

@kenmac: I always use protective wear, especially on jobs like this, it's a fool who doesn't. A mild acid wash might be the better option, I was loathed to use the tools I did but it was the only way to get the paint and crud off. Yes I'm aware the old pump has the plunger missing, that's a...

Old Downpipes and Hoppers (Sandblast them?)

Long time passed since I last posted but had some unforeseen problems stopping me from continuing the job. Anyway went down today and started on the downpipes. Had a bit of a surprise because the hoppers were actually cast lead hoppers so I couldn't use the scaler on that, had to use blades and...

Will Brick acid damage a flat roof with felt and gravel?

I have some old dust sheets I don't mind binning so I'll cover up with those, its not a big job but nevertheless don't want corrosion of the felt nor the bitumen.

Old Downpipes and Hoppers (Sandblast them?)

Well tried a bit of sandblasting, never again lol! I thought the pipe was cracked but its actually the remnants of ivy. I was talking to a car refinisher the other day and he said the way he get got flaking paint and rust off an old cast iron lamppost was to use a needle scaler for an air...

Paint "bumping up" over areas where filler used

Have you considered you may not have sanded enough, Paint will dry to micron's thick (a Micron is one millionth of a metre) so I doubt the paint is making the bump and by now the filler should be well and truly primed so no matting (area looks a different tone of the colour or looks dull...

    Repair melamine (?) drawer front

Scrape it back and create a deeper dwell(hole) drill a few shallow holes at about 45º this will allow for better grip of the filler, 2 pack wood filler is pretty much your only option (think car body filler) then fill but don't try and fill in one go, fill and sand, fill and sand until your...

Paint coming off when wiping down walls with water

Sounds like contract emulsion, normally painted onto new plaster to give it a binding coat before people start putting Vinyl paints on. You can put a vinyl paint over it but I generally put a mist coat on first so first/mist coat thinned by about 5-10% if its a trade paint, if its from wilko's...

Will Brick acid damage a flat roof with felt and gravel?

Hi all, I have a wall that is above a flat roof extension, the flat roof is felted and gravelled, I have to remove some very poor mortaring from the brickwork, the mortar will eventually need removing as it is a different colour to the rest of the mortar but for now all I have to do is remove...

Old Downpipes and Hoppers (Sandblast them?)

Just had a root around in the garage and found a spot sandblasting kit from Workzone, Max working pressure is 3 Bar my compressor will go to 8 bar so I'm feeling a bit more optimistic. I also saved some large cardboard packaging from when I fitted my shower so I think that would protect the...

Old Downpipes and Hoppers (Sandblast them?)

Hi guys thanks for the suggestions, I'm going down to the site today so may have a preliminary test with wire brushing. Removal of downpipes and hoppers isn't an option unfortunately. I'd considered sandblasting but after looking at the hiring costs to actual work to be done ratio it came out...

Old Downpipes and Hoppers (Sandblast them?)

Hi all I have some old cast iron downpipes on an old stone building I need to clean up, they have years of neglect and are really tatty and rusted. I was considering sandblasting but I don't think it would be a very cost effective method, although it would probably make a smarter job I think a...

    10' x 6' Metal Shed on a concrete base.

Thanks for all the tips and advice, I'll be popping round tomorrow so I'll know more. I've put a metal shed up before and I have to say it was absolutely awful to do, why they can't just make the shed sides up so all you have to do is bolt the corners I'll never know, logic goes out the window...

    10' x 6' Metal Shed on a concrete base.

Fair point, I'll have to check what the requirements for the shed are as I haven't actually seen it yet, it gets delivered in 2 weeks and I have the joy of constructing it. o_O

    10' x 6' Metal Shed on a concrete base.

Hi, my next-door neighbour (in his 70's) has asked me to help him with a metal shed he's ordered, its 10ft x 6ft and will require being screwed down. The soil is quite soft and under the soil it's clay, he just wants to plonk down some concrete but I've told him it needs some hardcore first...

    Fibreglass Tissue

Hi all, I need to find some fine or ultra fine fibreglass tissue. This isn't for a car repair but for an ornament repair (Stags Head) that needs to have a strong bond as it will be hung on a wall and is quite heavy. My partner tripped over a cable while cleaning and whacked it off the wall...

Best white exterior gloss for white wooden door?

I've just painted an Exterior door in Sandtex Eggshell X-tra looks very nice too. The door was a stained door that had been neglected and had begun to delaminate. Once the repairs ahd been done I applied an undercoat and 3 coats of the Sandtex.

best paint for going over internal gloss

I've just had to sort several window sills painted with water-based paint. They weren't prepped at all, just straight on to gloss, started to sand and it started to shell off. several oil based layers later and it was silky smooth with a nice bit of shiny to finish. personally not a fan of WB...

What can you do to lighten Mahogany?

Not a fan of Mahogany unless its proper mahogany and not just some pine coloured with a mahogany stain. Shame you couldn't wrap it like they do with cars.
