How to paint and fill an old beam

I've just done painted beams for a customer, they were gloss stain varnished in what I think was a mix of mahogany and something akin to rosewood and a right mess it was too, you could tell how they started to do it and then obviously regretted it but followed through with the gloss being very...

    Palm Sander Recommendations

Had a bit of a sort out of my shed and I found an old wickes detail sander that had a nice 30mm diameter exhaust. So I popped to my local aquatic shop, bought 2 metres of 32mm corrugated pipe, checked it fitted snuggly onto the Dysons - and very nicely it does too, splurged a bit of clear...

Do I screw baton to shelf or shelf to baton?

The customer gets what the customer wants, you can only advise them and if you do the job, make note of the advice on the Invoice or if the customer isn't listening to good advice just don't do the job. Pretty simple really. I'm sure the people involved are capable enough to make smart choices...

    Palm Sander Recommendations

Would be an interesting review to have wouldn't it, can you just plug other tools into any dust extractor, because in my experience they love to make their own fitments with their own pipe gauges so having a selection of tools and dust extractors and no cobbling together with ducktape would be...

    Palm Sander Recommendations

The problem with a lot of tool brands today is you have to buy into their system, so with Festools before you buy a tool you have to make a minimum financial investment of approx £300 in their dust extractor. the same goes for the rest like Bosch, Dewalt,, Makita, Milwaukee and Hitachi etc. If I...

Do I screw baton to shelf or shelf to baton?

Unless she's got a shed load of lead crystal shes going to put on it, or she's thinking of putting a fish tank on top, I don't think it would be any less dangerous than if the shelf sat a few centimetres above the rad. I would just inform her that the shelf isn't to be leaned on, sat on or have...

    Palm Sander Recommendations

Hi all, Can anyone recommend a decent palm sander, corded or cordless. I was looking at the Ryobi One+ because I have a few Ryobi One+ tools but If there is a good alternative I'd take a look at it. Dust extraction is important as it will be used internally quite a bit.

Do I screw baton to shelf or shelf to baton?

Why not fit two L brackets either side of the rad. at least they will take some load but shelves over rads are never going to look pretty. I always thought the general rule was screw thin wood to thick.

Oak Veneered MDF - finishing the edge

Hi all, just making a custom worktop for my computer room out of a sheet of 8ft x 4ft Oak Veneered MDF. I've cut the shape out and I now want to finish the edge off. I would like it to be a veneered edge either of a similar oak or of a darker contrasting wood like walnut or, if I'm feeling...

    Travertine Tiles and Oak...

I like the sound of that, I had considered edging it first to give that impression but the top is thick enough to route out a recess for the tiles, that would also help with the connections underneath i.e. the trap. You've inspired my creativity, I'm pretty handy with a router so I might...

Tiling comedy of errors. Help needed.

Id go with hardybacker board costs a bit but at least nobody can complain about it. PVA is no match for water ingress, tanking the area might have helped, but I'd just bite the bullet get it done and if the shower ends up like that again they have no excuses other than they are scutty.

Advice Please - Tiles falling off in the shower

    Need quick Advice on Tiler

If the job gets done to your satisfaction then it was worth every penny, the guy obviously knows how to tile and you have seen his work so what more could you ask for, I have no trouble paying good tradesmen and would rather spend more knowing I'm getting the job done correctly. If you have the...
