New Boiler Installation - Messy Job - Almost a disaster

He has used end feed soder fittings which are cheap but need expertise. I used the ones with a ring of solder built in but then I am only DIY. Maybe he didn't use flux ? Or clean the fittings and pipe with wire wool?

    shower pump pipework

If the pump is in the airing cupboard, short runs of 15mm should be ok - this is what I have. It is best to have short runs on input side of the pump and longer runs on the delivery side.

Help needed to operate central heating

If you have three valves, you prob have 3 zones. HW, UFH and upstairs rads. Identify the the valve which heats the upstairs rads by observing which pipes get hot when the HW is on. Then trace the wiring from that valve to see what operates the valve. This may require looking inside a connection...

How would you deal with this cast iron bath

Support and protect the pipes as you say, remove the wooden frame - it won't fit the new bath although you could reuse the wood. Get some good ear defenders - the noise is horrendous! It's the first break that is difficult - you need a weak point to start, an edge or plug hole. After that it...

    Removing bathtub

First get some isolation valves and install them as soon as you can to minimise turning the whole house off.

    Inspection cover replacement

You will not get just a replacement cover. Any new cover will come with it's own frame. Get the type that you can infill with slabs close to the old size. So you need to remove old cover and frame carefully without dropping stuff into the drain - best to put a cloth down if it's you own drain...

Combi boiler - how to work on radiators but retain hot water ???

Some boilers have built in flow and return valves for maintenance purposes. Not sure you are supposed to run the boiler (even HW ) with them turned off.

Help with a stopcock which wont budge please

As a backup find your outside stop cock and and see if that will turn the water off. It's usually under a small cover in the pavement outside your house. Then you will be able to just replace your under sink stop cock. Your stopcock is probably jammed with timescale and you may be able to free...

    Screaming oven fan Samsung

One of the fans in our Samsung built in oven, screeches when switched on but quiets down when warmed up. Can I lubricate it to keep it going ? Has anybody tried oiling an oven fan ?

Is the screw on the side of this thing the open/close control?

Gently turn the screw back and forth , gradually moving further to the off position. If it is stuck then you have to look at further upstream to turn a main stop cock off if the toilet is mains fed.

New boiler causing strange noises in the radiators

It may be the pump is too vigerous causing the whistling - particularly in TRVs. Don't know if you have settings on the pump like you have on pumps external to the boiler ?

    Timer fan control

Thanks all. I'll try to find the MK3190 or just use an ordinary switch. Basically I want to avoid the fan coming on every time someone pops in the bathroom. Also it avoids the three pole isolation switch which confuses everyone. Bathroom refit due next Jan by trade.

    Timer fan control

I have been looking for "momentary" or "retractive" pull switch but cannot find one? I have seen them in hospital bathrooms as alarm switches with a red cord. Any ideas ?

    Timer fan control

Instead of the usual bathroom fan control via the light switch, I want an independent switch to turn on a fan with timer. I envisage a momentary pull switch that kicks the fan into action; the fan then runs on its timer circuit. The momentary pull switch being one which only connects when being...

    Indesit which model oven ?

Yeah ! That's it. Thanks. Had a look at the element in the oven and it matches the picture in one of the spares listings. I'll do some measuring then order. Looks like the screws are accessed from the back on this model. Around £20-30.

    Indesit which model oven ?

I need a grill element for an Indesit single oven but can't find the model no. Any stickers on the front have long gone - hoping someone can advise by the photos attached. Otherwise have to take it out and look at the back. Thanks Dal

How can I verify car park lighting unrealistic £10k cost

There is probably a management mark up !! For instance, renting agents charge for arranging a washing machine to be fixed, often more than the actual repair.

Replace main stop cock with quarter turn ball valve.

We just had a water meter fitted out in the pavement and the pvc valve out there is a quarter turn valve. I noticed our flow rate improved , probably because the new fittings are less restrictive. I wandered if I replaced my main stopcock whether that would improve the flow even more ? I was...

Central Heating Only Coping With Heating 3 or 4 radiators

Has this been resolved ? Anyway we had a similar problem a few years back - basically a lack of flow. It turned out to be an innocently looking anti-gravity valve. This looks like a 22mm connector usually just above the pump but inside this is a little brass disc that stops convection in the CH...
