Cold feed for mixer shower direct to tank??

The instructions on my mixer shower (for my gravity fed system) say that I should take the feed directly from the cold water storage tank Would you guys actually make a new connection into a storage tank to install a new mixer shower? If not, can I assume that: a) I would be daft to tee...

Electric towel rail in zone 2

Thanks Ban, I agree that does seem a good enough answer, but as the thermostatic part is an option, I wanted to make sure that it was ok to have the actual thermostat control in zone 2. When my LABC comes to visit on completion I want to be 100% sure he won't query the siting.

Electric towel rail in zone 2

Thank you Taylor for making the effort to reply, even though your patronising tone isn't really necessary or called for. I had already seen all the details you refer to, and as you must be aware, my specific question was not answered in those details. You also must be aware that every...

Electric towel rail in zone 2

I am installing an electric towel rail in my new en-suite which is IP54 rated. The thermostatic element included is one of these http://www.geyser.co.uk/element-thermostatic-600watt-matt-grey-finish-p-394.html I can't seem to get a response from the supplier to confirm that the whole rail...

    Apologies...another (simple) bonding question

Thanks. So are you saying that when my work on the new en-suite is checked they will have to also ensure that my main bonding is up to date? My CU was new last year and is RCD protected with MCBs for each circuit. The spark also replaced the tails and the earth cable at the CU. Not aure...

    Apologies...another (simple) bonding question

Thank you for the reply, although I don't understand it. When you said "Also, if you are doing electrical work, the main bonding must be brought up to current standards", what did you mean by the "main bonding?" Cheers

    Apologies...another (simple) bonding question

I'd be very grateful for a little advice on what I think is a fairly simple bonding question. My new partitioned en-suite will have: Heated towel rail (zone 2 compliant) Shaver-point and light Fan (nowhere near zone 2) Double insulated down-lighters (no earth) Plastic pipes...

    Three showers

Ok, I suppose the mod on Saturday afternoon shift thought that you plumbers would know more about CU load ratings than the electricians. Obviously our hot water tank can only hold so much, but is it acceptable to have two 8.5kw showers on a 100A CU, bearing in mind the other demands on it?

    Three showers

One of our showers is a mixer, HW from tank. Conventional boiler. The other is in the Granny flat (garage conversion) and is electric 8.5kw. I am planning a third to go in a bedroom en-suite. Would it be best to go for a mixer or an electric? The CU has a rating of 100A, it does not have a...

    Heater in "wet room"

Many thanks, that information is very helpful indeed.

    Heater in "wet room"

Does anyone know how having a shower set up as per a "wetroom" would affect the parameters of the relevant zones 1, 2 and 3? That is, a tiled floor sloping to a floor drain, possibly with a shower curtain around the shower area, but without enclosure or tray. I would like to install a...

    Re Wiring House

Exactly, dds. This is a DIY forum. If everyone took BAS's approach we may as well close the forum down. Some DIYers are absolute fools, no doubt, but those with the sense to seek advice on this forum are unlikely to be in that category, so would appreciate polite and helpful advice!

10mm or 6mm, RCBO or MCB

Thanks ricicle...I assume you are not the one that goes POP!? Are 8.5kW showers really that bad? Or put it another way, how much better are 9.5 or 10.5kW? Cheers.

10mm or 6mm, RCBO or MCB

Thanks. The cable will also run through two single brick walls and possibly about 2m of plastic sheath between shower and isolating switch.

10mm or 6mm, RCBO or MCB

New 8.5kW shower, about 18m from CU. Cable mostly surface mounted. I know that 10mm cable would be a sound bet, but it's expensive and more tricky to work with. Is 6mm safe and acceptable? The CU was new this year, therefore up to date. Is a slot in 40A MCB safe and acceptable or should...

Noise with uPVC windows when windy

Thank you. I found two areas where the sealant had come away from the frame, these areas coinciding with where the noise came from. These have now been re-sealed and so far there is no noise.....having said that, the wind has also dropped, but I'm confident that the problem has ben solved...

Noise with uPVC windows when windy

My eight year old uPVC windows have started making whistling/piping noises when the wind is in certain directions. I have tried isolating gaps/seals etc but haven't found the problem. Any ideas most gratefully received, thanks.

    Tiling over tiles!

I thought the point here was that the quote was high AND it was going to be a bodge job!! And the floor would be raised by at least 11mm, thus the door would need resetting, then when the floor was done properly (very soon as it is a bodge job) a new door would be required etc etc.

MDF bath panels - best way of fixing

It's only a bath panel Matthew, you're not trying to support the roof joists! A good length of velcro wouldn't budge, and my magnets were so strong I couldn't get the panel off at first, so had to tape over the magnet face to reduce their strength, and they're only little things.
