cutting a high gloss kitchen door - possible or not?

do you score the line first, before cutting? or just cut straight over the masking tape? The only bit i'm not sure about is when the saw initially makes contact with the door and when it pushes out after the cut. How do I prevent any chipping on those side edges? decided to go for one of...

    warranty on new ebay items

Does anyone know about warranties on new or used ebay items? For instance, if i were to buy a dishwasher, oven etc from ebay what should I be looking for? a manufacturers warranty, a receipt (often there isn't one)? What about a one year old used item, that has a year of warranty left on it...

need effective fan with no backdraft or noise

Is there a decent (powerful) fan out there that can effectively stop backdrafts and does not have noisy flaps? I have a kitchen fan and a bathroom fan that are both on west facing walls. There are dirctly facing strong westerly winds so there is a fair amount of drafts that come in. I've...

cutting a high gloss kitchen door - possible or not?

some useful tips. thanks. Can't get a door at the height I need, hence having to cut  I do plan to try a few different methods before the final cut... hopefully practise will make perfect! When people mention "marking" and "scribing" do they just mean scoring with something...

cutting a high gloss kitchen door - possible or not?

never come acoss a dovetail saw before (imagine it's very fine toothed - for joints) but might investigate it. It's going to require some accuracy to saw along a scribed line by hand - slow and ateady as she goes! what kind of router blade is used for trimming the rough edge?

cutting a high gloss kitchen door - possible or not?

Hello folks, Does anyone know if it is possible to cut a high gloss door (white slab) to reduce it's height. We've changed our layout a bit, but in doing so have a 500mm wall unit that needs to be trimmed down by approx 200mm. Is it possible to do and leave a decent, straight finish. The cut...

single and combi oven power query

hi rockdg, thanks for your help my current set up has the 38amp cable going the kitchen wall and straight into the cooker switch. It then goes through a conduit under the plaster and comes out behind the oven housing. Can my electrician just take the two 4mm tails you speak of from this single...

single and combi oven power query

thanks, that's put my mind at ease. Plastering can go ahead and electrics can be sorted out afterwards. Boy, the trouble I could have got into for not having thought it through before hand (family, plasterer and electrician) doesn't bare thinking about.

single and combi oven power query

the rating is printed on a piece of blue and red card that is attached to the reel, not on the cable itself. Maybe, that's what wickes does with all it's cables. Might be what all the diy sheds do, not sure.

single and combi oven power query

great bit of detective work sparkwright that must be the one. I too am thinking that rockdg may have the solution. I can't see a spare slot in the fuse box (garden electrics and new shower room used those up a couple of years back) so it might not be possible to run another cable. So, do...

single and combi oven power query

There's no mention of size, it only says it's from Wickes - twin & earth max rating at 240volts=38amps 6242yh (suitable for cookers & showers) I have measured the whole cable and it's quite thick and difficult to bend 14mm x 8mm (how non technical is that - bet i get told off!)

single and combi oven power query

thanks rockdg, you appear to have the same oven/combi oven set up that we are after. So, at the moment the 30amp wire going straight from the main fuse box, to the back of the oven housing (via the red buttoned switch) is ok? My main concern is that the 38 amp cable in the wall is ok and does...

single and combi oven power query

I know it's 38 amps because the chap who fitted it left the coil with about a meter on it in my garage. It says Twin & earth cable - max rating 240volts=38amps on the label. The cable comes from the fuse box in the garage, it has it's own switch (cooker written on it) and runs 2m in the...

single and combi oven power query

Hi, we're about to change our built in double oven and want to replace it with a single oven and a smaller combi oven/microwave. Our double oven is using a cooker point which has a 38amp cable coming directly from the fuse box. Is it ok for this 38amp cable and it's cooker point to feed both...

dvd problem - sound but no picture

Sorted it out. Had to look up what "fast blanking " was on the interent. Apparently it's something to do with stopping the RGB signal. It's the 16th pin on the scart, so I removed it with a pair of pliars and hey presto.. I got both sound and picture. It must be down to the video/tv combi scart...

dvd problem - sound but no picture

thanks chris. Will try it tomorrow when I am meant to go back to my sister's to have another bash at fixing it! One thing my sister has just told me over the phone is if she pulls the scart so that it's almost out of the socket, then a bit of the picture appears. I'll try a better scart cable...

dvd problem - sound but no picture

hi folks, My sister has bought a cheap dvd player (philips) to connect to her old vhs/tv in one combo. I connected the scarts up to it (with nothing else connected) and I got sound only. No picture, just a black screen. I've tried messing around with the input button on the tv and it still...

    inhibitor advice needed

it's called a 30cdi greenstar. Can't find the blue book just yet. I only kept the manual part and packed all the other paperwork away. We've been in the house for 2 years and the system was fitted the year before we bought the place. Owner gave us a load of stuff at the time. So, 2 options...
