    Strongest concrete mix

It's for 2 things, first as part of a wall render to which a heavy duty hinge will be mounted on and second to mount a lintel on top of a wall but it needs strength to stop teh wall moving at the top due to the weight of a (v.heavy) door

    Strongest concrete mix

How do I get the strongest concrete mix - Is there a stronger mix that the 'strong mix' on the bag? If I mix concrete with water only will that be as strong as possible? I also need to drill through whatever I make so can't have it diamond like...

Concrete strength - not so good....

I'm rendering a wall with a concrete and hydralime mix plus concreting in a lintel above a garage door - the lintel sits on top of a concrete block wall. The problems are the lintel got knocked (upwards) by the door - didn't think I hit it that hard and it seperated the lintel from the...

    Some Basic rendering questions

I want to cement render part of my garage. I have some basic questions: Do I need to use hydralime as per the rendering spreadsheet stikied on this forum? - what is it, what does it do? Is 20mm a good thickness to work to - I was thinking 10mm would make it flush and fit in with...

Running power to garage through garden - how?

Hi - why are you recommending taking pictures - for a buildling inspector or electrician to sign it off or then do the work himself?

    Advice on Brick Laying skills.

Having just built part of a garage extension in large concrete blocks I can agree with the above - mine is a bit wonkey (not too bad though) and you learn as you go. My advice (purely amatuer) since you sound keen and need to save the cash why not do the course, buy a load of bricks, make a...

How do I drill through very hard concrete (prefab)?

The bits are good quality and I believe tungsten carbide tipped. I don't know if a brand new bit of the same type would be better/faster - maybe worth a go? The smalest bit I have I think is 6mm what size pilots were you thinking of? I have tried all different sized bit - there didn't seem...

How do I drill through very hard concrete (prefab)?

My garage is made of prefab concrete and I want to drill the walls to put some screws in the wall (so not drilled all the way through). The problem is the concrete is very tough and has lots of small stones in which seem to be even tougher. A normal hammer drill makes little/no progress...

Running power to garage through garden - how?

How does that 'mole' in the link work? Would that be easier than digging a trench? Any ideas on rough prices for an electrician to design and then check the installation if I do all the work?

Running power to garage through garden - how?

Do I need all the books or just one, where you mentioned I should get a guide to the regulations (3rd book) is that not what the second book is also? Which book would be recommended for a DIY installer - would I find out in there if its best to have a RCD feeding the entire supply or one in...

Running power to garage through garden - how?

What are my options for doing this? Are there any guides? Can I use galvanised conduit instead of armoured cable? - how deep, size, connections? etc Any tips? How much current (cable size) should I plan for - I'm estimating the max I could use would be around say 13A...

Using a PIR in the Bathroom - advice?

Yes it's good though I wouldn't necesserily recommend the Danlers over a cheap one from ebay. Since i've had a couple of problems with the Danlers - it doesn't stay on for as long as it used to plus draughts switch it on because it's designed for false ceilings in offices where there are no...

    A Drain that goes nowhere?

Digging the outlet up is a lot of work, plus I'd have to pay to have the whole lot re-tarmaced. What got me was it felt as if the casting for the ceramic drain had no exit in the first place I would have thought if a builder bodged the job the drain would have an outlet it would just go nowhere.
