    I wondered if you could take out some of the expanded chip board below the veneer of the worktop and then glue in a metal joint? There is another metal joint on the other side of the worktop. So, it would not look out of place.

    thanks. I should have explained that this is a first floor, four in a block flat with its own staircase. But, point taken, it could come from other rooms in the flat. I was trying to work out whether this is condensation or damp penetration, any thoughts?
