I've started turning off all the electrics, not just the circuits I *think* Im working on ... mainly because the last owner of this house thought they were an expert and have circruits all over the place (if I turn off the upstairs sockets MCB, the fridge in the kitchen goes off!)

Ive not used this one, but Ive seen another like it. The way it worked was that you pulled on it to turn on or off, if you where turning it on the longer you held the cord pulled the dimmer the light got. The downside for the one I used was that you could not dim the light without turning...

But would it be dangerous?

What would happen if I used a 2 way switch where a 1 way light switch should be used?

Im going to be checking all the faceplates again, any that dont have an earth connection are going back to plastic (until I can get a proper electrician out to earth them). Those that are earthed should be ok right? Another question, for this to have happened the live wire must have come...

After the shock I got Im half considering changes all the faceplats back to plastic! If earthed, are the metal plates just as safe?

Thanks for clarifying it. Id rather not use a Neon screwdriver, doesnt that require that you become part of the circuit (earthing it). Woudl a multimeter work?

Just a question from someone who was electrocuted yesterday... whats the best way to test for dead?

This was very very stupid of me. We have been replacing the light switches in our house with new stainless steel ones. Unforuntately one or two of them arent earthed. Yesterday I had the misfountune of touching two light switches (or the faceplaces) at teh same time as I was leaving a room...

Hi all, Im painting a few rooms in my houses and want to make them look bigger. Ive seen somewhere that if you paint the walls different colours that can help, i.e one wall a darker blue, the others being light... how does this work? Which wall do you paint darker?
