    Gap between cistern and wall

Hi I have finally got round to fixing the new toilet in and there is a gap at the bottom of the cistern of about 6-10mm to the wall but it fits flush at the top. I'm pretty sure this is because of the soil pan connector being a tad long, will this cause a problem? Should I fix washers inbetween...

Fixing the cistern to the wall

Woo hoo I found the fixings for the pan. The fixings to the floor seem quite heavy duty though, and also seem designed for concrete, should I use them or just use normal wood screws, do you think 30mm would be long enough?

Fixing the cistern to the wall

I think I may have found the fixings for the pan, I was told they were for the sink but I think they may have come with the toilet, any ideas which they are for? If they are for the pan how do they work as the back is all closed off, also the holes are horizontal, why are they there, I don't...

Fixing the cistern to the wall

It does have holes just nothing to fix it with, should the fixings normally come with the toilet, it was bought from Homebse.

Fixing the cistern to the wall

Hi, this is a silly question but do you have to screw a cistern to the wall, ours didn't come with any fixings. The one that it replaced was never screwed in, it seemed to just be silconed to the wall, something i don't really want to do thou. Also does the pan have to be screwed to the floor...

Best way to fit skirting board in victorian house

Thanks that's a good point, in some places it does sit fairly flush, what sort of nails are best to use i won't hire a gun as it will be fairly pricey. Burnerman if filler doesn't sand down can it be smoothed out easily before it dries?

Fitting new sink waste to old pipes

It is an external wall so wasn't sure if i could try and knock the pipe from outside further in, as if i cut it close to the wall it would go through an elbow and i wasn't sure if that would make it too thick to fit an elbow too. I'm confused to what this mcalpine elbow does, (i don't know much...

Best way to fit skirting board in victorian house

Hi, removed the skirting to lay a wooden floor and have bought MDF skirting to replace the old one, it was nailed in before to little wooden chocks but quite a few of these split when the old skirting came out. Is it best to fit new chocks or can i glue the skirting straight to the wall. Also it...

    Tiling to a skirting board

My spacers are 4mm will a bigger gap solve the cracking problem. I'm looking at it from both a practical and asthetic point of view, the sink would be silconed to the tiles at the top so wasn't sure if it would look right if they were siliconed to the skirting at the bottom.

Fitting new sink waste to old pipes

How would i go about that bathstyle, should i just hack off the grey pipes as close to the wall as i can get. It's not a wall hung basin but the pedestel is set quite far from the wall so you can see all the pipe work easily and i'd like it too look nice. I'm not sure i can cut to a pipe part as...

    Tiling to a skirting board

Hello, I want to put up a small square of tiles behind my new sink, which will extend down to the skirting board. Are you meant to leave the same gap between the tiles and skirting as you do between the tiles themselves (and apply grout in the gap), or is it better to butt them right up to the...

Fitting new sink waste to old pipes

Hello, I want to fit a chrome bottle trap to the grey pipe shown above. How do I go about this? The grey pipe doesn't come off, and I'm worried about the different sizes of pipe and how I can fit them together. If a chrome trap doesn't fit, I could use a white plastic one instead - am I right in...
